Florida Selects Hutsko in Third Round of NHL Entry Draft
Hutsko became the third Eagle in program history to be drafted by the Florida Panthers, joining Michael Matheson (2012) and Ian McCoshen (2013).
The Tampa, Fla. native became Boston College’s eighth Hockey East Rookie of the Year and the second winner in three years as last year’s newcomer finished second the league in points scored amongst rookies with 31 (12-19-31) and points per game (0.84). He ranked eighth, nationally, amongst all freshmen players in college hockey. Amongst all of the NCAA, Hutsko tied for 90th in points scored.
Hutsko was tabbed the Hockey East Rookie of the Month in February after he led all NCAA rookies with 13 points on seven goals and six assists.
BC’s dynamic winger was the first Eagle to crack the 30-point plateau (12-19-31) this season and led the Eagles in multi-point games this season with eight. He tied for the second most goals scored (12) and has doled out the most assists for the maroon and gold with 19.
Back in early February, Hutsko became the first Eagle to account for five goals in two games since Nathan Gerbe turned the trick 10 years ago during the 2007-08 season. Hutsko scored the game-tying goal and overtime winner against UMass Lowell on Feb. 9 and followed that performance with a natural hat trick against Harvard in the Beanpot consolation on Feb. 12, all occurring in the third period, in a span of 11 minutes and 23 seconds, including an even-strength goal, power-play goal and extra attacker goal. That hat trick was BC’s only of the season.
