RUSS OLIVE NAMED NEIBA ALL-NEW ENGLAND SECOND TEAM
LOWELL, Mass. – Following his breakout season, UMass Lowell junior Russ Olive(Chelmsford, Mass.) earned a spot on the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-New England Second Team, as announced on Tuesday.
Olive finished the 2018 season leading the River Hawks with his .359 average, 71 hits, 13 doubles, 13 home runs and .641 slugging percentage. The outfielder’s 37 RBI ranked second on the team, and his seven multi-RBI contests were good for fourth.
The Chelmsford, Mass. native’s numbers led the America East in slugging, while his home runs were second and his average placed third. He also led UMass Lowell with 23 multi-hit games and reached base in 33 consecutive games.
Olive becomes the fifth River Hawk to earn All-New England honors, and the third to make the Second Team. Earlier in the month, he was named to the America East All-Conference Second Team as well.
The NEIBA honored 42 players from 15 Division I New England schools.
