Boston College Preseason Practice Report No. 19

10 days until the 2017 season begins at NIU

CHESTNUT HILLMass. – The Boston College football team returned to Alumni Stadium for preseason camp practice No. 19 Tuesday morning. The Eagles have one final preseason camp practice on Wednesday before game week preparations begin for the opener at Northern Illinois on Sept. 1.

The position battle at quarterback is still ongoing and asked if he has chosen a starter under center, head coach Steve Addazio said: “not yet.”

Addazio was pleased with the effort the Eagles practiced with on Tuesday.

“I’m really happy with the way they came out here,” Addazio said. “We had a hard day yesterday, came right back out this morning and I thought we just played physically in there. We had a physical, go-get-it practice. You’re in your fourth week of training camp. Sometimes it really slows down but I thought they did a really good job today coming out with their attitude, their effort and they played with a lot of intensity. So I was real pleased with that today so it was good. Two days in a row like that in week four is a good thing to see.”

The running game has been a strength for BC in preseason camp and Addazio was asked about how the running game has come together this preseason.

“Very well,” Addazio said. “We’re running the ball pretty well right now. In fact, today at the end, we had a bunch of two’s and three’s. I’m more interested in what’s going on there. The backs are big and powerful. All phases are better. Every phase is better. Now it’s just hammering out the consistency of it all. Anthony dropped a nice ball in the corner of the end zone to Charlie, the field goal kickers kicked well today, which was nice and the first time I’ve seen that in camp that consistently so that was a good takeaway as well.”

As with any preseason camp, it has given an opportunity for players to emerge and one player who has looked to taken advantage of the increased reps has been redshirt freshman wide receiver, Kobay White. The Harrisburg, Pa., native has shown the ability to make plays throughout the spring and preseason and has opened the eyes of the coaches.

“He’s a talented guy,” Addazio said of White. “He’s a really good player. He’s going to have a great year, a great career. He’s only a redshirt freshman. He’s one of those guys that when the ball is in the air, he’s going to go get it. He’s that guy. He’s big, physical, fast. He’s a bona fide receiver in the conference. I think we’re going to see a lot of him this year and he’ll make a fair amount of plays.”

Practice Notes: Another busy day with NFL scouts at practice as the New Orleans Saints, Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders, Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears were in attendance … The weekly Boston College radio show with Steve Addazio returns to Jake N Joes in Waltham next Monday from 7-8 p.m. with the voice of the Eagles Jon Meterparel and former BC standout Pete Cronan. The entire list of show dates will be released later this week. Fans can listen to the radio show on WEEI 850 AM or on TuneIn.
