Boston College Preseason Practice Report No. 18

BC begins final week of preseason camp just 11 days from the opener

CHESTNUT HILLMass. – The Boston College football team opened its fourth and final week of preseason camp Monday morning inside Alumni Stadium. The Eagles finished practice No. 18 of the preseason and are scheduled for two more days of preseason camp this week before turning their full attention to the season opener at Northern Illinois.

The Eagles had the weekend off following Friday’s third scrimmage of the preseason. Head coach Steve Addazio addressed the media following practice and gave his thoughts on how he felt following Friday’s scrimmage.

“We wanted to go at night, but they were calling for possible thunderstorms so we had to go in the morning because we didn’t want to take the chance and ruin it,” said Addazio. “Friday was ok, little sloppy. Guys are tired. I gave them a couple days off their feet Saturday and Sunday. We came out here today and got after it. That was a pretty physical, violent practice. I think it went really well. They got their legs back a little bit, just a little bit of juice came back. It was nice, it worked out well. We got a lot done.”

Addazio spoke about the team’s practice Monday and where the team is physically.

“This is what happens in camp,” Addazio said. “You get worried when you can’t turn around a bad day but we have. We haven’t had a lot of bad days. We had that one day I thought was just not good but that’s typical for this time in camp. We’ve got really camp-ish today, tomorrow and Wednesday. And then we shift gears. They come out ready to roll this morning coming off a little time off. Tomorrow will be a little harder and then we’ll try to get it out of them on Wednesday. Then we’ll shift and get out of the camp grind and get in to the game grind which will get everybody’s attention. We’re tried now. Been hitting each other for four weeks. Defense knows the checks of the last scrimmage. Everybody knows everything now. That’s what happens a little bit. It was pretty physical today and pretty crisp so it was good.”

The Eagles resume preseason camp practice Tuesday morning inside Alumni Stadium.

Practice Notes: Seven NFL scouts from five teams attended practice Monday. The Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans each had one scout while the New York Jets and Washington Redskins had two scouts in attendance … one of the surprise storylines from camp has been the impact of Max Schulze-Geisthovel from the BC men’s soccer team … Schulze-Geisthovel is in line to handle kickoff duties for the Eagles. “Guy is going to really help us on kickoffs,” said Addazio. “He’s got a strong, live leg. He’s working on his field goals. But I know right now he’s going to help us on kickoff. He puts it high and deep and pretty consistently. He’s as strong a leg as I’ve seen here.  So that’s a good thing. We’ll see how he does on the field goal part. Every once in a while, you get a little something. We don’t have a huge walk-on population, nature of the place. A lot of state schools have things like that pop up a little easier. But this is great. Nice little gift there.”
