The Lowell Spinners head out on the road winners of four in a row and seven out of their last ten. It is by far their best stretch of baseball so far. The trip will take them to Batavia and Williamsport with three games in each spot.

Congratulation is in order for former Spinner Victor Acosta who was promoted last week to the Salem Red Sox. Acosta spent more than two seasons in Lowell and during that time he would become the all-time hit leader with (113). He appeared in 116 games as a Spinner.

Since being signed as a 13th round pick in this year draft, third baseman Garrett Benge has been getting on base with regularity. The former Oklahoma State product had an 11-game on base streak snapped on Sunday in the win over Connecticut. Benge, who leads the team in walks with 11, also possess and an on-base percentage of .469.

First baseman Rainwinson Lameda has been swinging a hot bat of late. He leads the team in games played (18), at-bats with 74, and ranks second in slugging percentage at .429.

Dakota Smith could be Lowell’s best starting pitcher so far, heading into his last start on Sunday night Smith has posted a 1.23 ERA. He has now made back to back starts of six innings giving up three earned runs or fewer.

For all the good the team has been doing lately, the defense is still a major concern. In the 19 games played so far, the Spinners have committed more than 40 errors. Catching it and throwing it to the right base is still a work in progress. Manager Iggy Suarez thinks the “speed of the game” may be contributing to the error total.
