Boston continues to build one of baseball’s best stories in 2026. The Red Sox defeated the Baltimore Orioles 4-1 at Fenway Park on July 20 for their 14th straight victory. The streak moved Boston within one win of tying the franchise record of 15 consecutive victories, established in 1946. As the winning streak grew, the Red Sox climbed steadily in the American League East standings while proving they belong among the league’s contenders. Winning streaks have always captivated baseball fans because every victory raises the pressure and excitement. Although every streak eventually ends, the memories often define an entire season. Throughout Major League Baseball history, several clubs have produced unforgettable stretches that changed division races and created championship hopes.
The San Francisco Giants own the longest winning streak in the Modern Era. They captured 26 straight victories during the 1916 season. The Cleveland Guardians, then known as the Cleveland Indians, rank second with 22 straight wins in 2017. That streak set the American League record. The 1935 Chicago Cubs follow with 21 consecutive victories, while the 2002 Oakland Athletics won 20 straight games. Meanwhile, the 1947 New York Yankees and the 1906 Chicago White Sox share fifth place with 19 consecutive wins.
Only seven teams have produced winning streaks of at least 15 games during the Expansion Era, which began in 1961. The 2021 St. Louis Cardinals won 17 straight games. Cleveland followed with its 22-game run in 2017. Oakland won 20 consecutive contests in 2002. The 1977 Kansas City Royals recorded 16 straight victories. Meanwhile, the 2001 Seattle Mariners, 2000 Atlanta Braves, and 1991 Minnesota Twins each posted 15-game winning streaks.
The Los Angeles Angels still hold their franchise record with 11 consecutive victories from June 16 through June 26, 1964. That run came during only the franchise’s fourth season. The Angels entered the streak with a 24-37 record before finishing the season at 82-80. Although they climbed above .500, they have never surpassed that winning streak. Houston has matched its franchise record of 12 straight wins three different times. The Astros first accomplished the feat in 1999 before repeating it in 2004. They matched the mark again from June 6 through June 18, 2018. That outstanding stretch featured 10 road victories and helped Houston finish 103-59. The Astros also recorded their second of three consecutive 100-win seasons.
The Athletics delivered one of baseball’s most famous streaks during the “Moneyball” season in 2002. Oakland won 20 straight games between Aug. 13 and Sept. 4. The Athletics started the streak sitting 4½ games behind in the American League West. However, they finished it leading the division by 3½ games. Even more remarkably, the final three victories came on walk-off wins. The streak concluded with an unforgettable 12-11 comeback victory over the Kansas City Royals after Oakland surrendered an early 11-0 lead.
Toronto has recorded five separate 11-game winning streaks. The most recent came from Aug. 2 through Aug. 13, 2015. That Blue Jays team featured stars José Bautista, Josh Donaldson, and Edwin Encarnación. Trade deadline additions David Price and Troy Tulowitzki strengthened the roster even further. Toronto actually produced two separate 11-game streaks that season before winning the American League East and reaching the American League Championship Series for its first postseason appearance since 1993.
Atlanta’s franchise record stands at 15 straight victories from April 16 through May 2, 2000. The Braves dominated opponents during that run, never allowing more than four runs in any game. Atlanta finished the season with a 95-67 record. That streak also fit perfectly into the Braves’ remarkable run of 14 consecutive division titles between 1991 and 2005, excluding the strike-shortened 1994 season. The franchise’s all-time record remains 18 consecutive victories, achieved in 1891. The Milwaukee Brewers finally rewrote franchise history in 2025. Milwaukee won 14 consecutive games from Aug. 1 through Aug. 16. The streak surpassed the previous record of 13 straight victories by the 1987 Brewers, who opened that season with 13 consecutive wins. Milwaukee secured the record-breaking victory against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park after pulling out a dramatic comeback.
St. Louis established a new franchise record with 17 straight victories from Sept. 11 through Sept. 28, 2021. The Cardinals entered the streak trailing by three games in the National League Wild Card race. Their postseason chances sat at only eight percent. Nevertheless, the remarkable run carried St. Louis into a playoff position. The Cardinals clinched a postseason berth by defeating Milwaukee 6-2 for their 17th consecutive victory. They also won their final 11 road games that season while breaking a franchise record that had stood since 1935.
Cleveland produced one of baseball’s greatest streaks during the 2017 season. The Guardians won 22 straight games from Aug. 24 through Sept. 14. Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco, Trevor Bauer, Francisco Lindor, and José Ramírez led a talented roster that dominated both offensively and defensively. The streak ended with a thrilling 10-inning victory over the Detroit Tigers when Jay Bruce delivered a walk-off double. That remarkable stretch remains the longest winning streak in American League history.
The Chicago Cubs held the Modern Era National League record for decades after winning 21 consecutive games from Sept. 4 through Sept. 27, 1935. Hall of Famers Gabby Hartnett, Billy Herman, Chuck Klein, and Freddie Lindstrom led the club. The streak carried Chicago from 2½ games behind the St. Louis Cardinals to the National League pennant. Although the Cubs lost the World Series to the Detroit Tigers, that memorable run remained unmatched until Cleveland’s historic streak in 2017.
The Arizona Diamondbacks set their franchise record with 13 straight victories between Aug. 24 and Sept. 6, 2017. Arizona never seriously challenged the powerhouse Los Angeles Dodgers for the National League West title. However, the streak secured momentum for a Wild Card berth. The Diamondbacks defeated the Colorado Rockies in the National League Wild Card Game before Los Angeles swept them in the National League Division Series. J.D. Martinez highlighted the streak by hitting four home runs against the Dodgers on Sept. 4.
