The 2026 season ended for the University of South Florida softball team in the Fayetteville Regional final. The Bulls lost 10-2 to No. 10 Arkansas on Sunday in Fayetteville, Arkansas. South Florida finished the year with a 44-17 record after another successful campaign under head coach Ken Eriksen. Arkansas improved to 45-11 with the regional victory. Despite the loss, the season marked another major accomplishment for the Bulls program. South Florida reached the NCAA Tournament for the 19th time under Eriksen. The Bulls also captured their 10th conference championship during his tenure. It was the second straight season that USF finished with 44 victories. The program once again proved itself among the nation’s most consistent softball teams.
USF showed early promise during the opening innings. Arkansas threatened in the first inning after Brinli Bain doubled with one out. However, the Bulls escaped trouble thanks to strong defense. A line drive up the middle was caught by Garcia-Soto, who quickly doubled off the runner at second base. The impressive defensive play ended the inning and kept the game scoreless. The Bulls grabbed the first lead at the top of the second inning. Alex Wilkes opened the inning with a walk after working a four-pitch at-bat. Karhys Pierce and DaNia Brooks followed with consecutive infield singles. Their hits loaded the bases with nobody out and created a major scoring opportunity for South Florida.
Jamia Nelson grounded into a double play, but Wilkes crossed home plate during the play. The run gave USF a 1-0 advantage. Arkansas responded immediately during the bottom half of the inning. The Razorbacks scored four runs in the frame and quickly shifted momentum. Arkansas carried a 4-1 lead into the third inning after taking advantage of timely hitting. South Florida continued battling despite the deficit. Alexa Galligani provided one of the game’s biggest highlights for the Bulls. She opened the fourth inning with a solo home run to right field. The blast cut the Arkansas lead to 4-2 and gave USF new energy. Galligani finished her collegiate career with six home runs and a seven-game hitting streak.
Arkansas answered again at the bottom of the fourth inning. The Razorbacks scored four more runs on four hits and extended their lead to 8-2. USF struggled to slow Arkansas throughout the middle innings. The Razorbacks continued producing offense with extra-base hits and consistent pressure on the bases.
Arkansas ended the game in the sixth inning after adding two more runs. The Razorbacks secured the 10-2 run-rule victory and advanced past the regional final. Dakota Kennedy and Kennedy Miller each drove in three runs for Arkansas. Karlie Davison collected two doubles during the win. Arkansas finished with 11 hits and controlled the game offensively after the second inning. USF used three pitchers during the contest. Carley Ernst started the game and pitched 1 2/3 innings. She allowed four earned runs and took the loss. McKenna Schroding followed with two innings in relief and surrendered four runs. Belle Sardja closed the game for the Bulls. She pitched 1 2/3 innings while striking out one batter and allowing two runs.
Several Bulls players delivered memorable moments despite the season-ending defeat. Galligani’s home run capped an impressive stretch to finish her career. Pierce and Brooks each added hits during the game. Alex Wilkes scored one of USF’s two runs after helping spark the second-inning rally.
The game also featured a historic family accomplishment for the Bulls. Alex Wilkes, Kacey Wilkes, and Jocelyn Wilkes became the first trio of sisters to play together in the same NCAA regional game. Their achievement added another memorable chapter to the season and reflected the strong bond within the program.
South Florida closed the season with another impressive résumé. The Bulls remained one of the top programs in the American Athletic Conference throughout the year. Their conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance highlighted the team’s consistency and resilience. Eriksen’s program once again demonstrated why it remains among the nation’s respected softball programs. The Bulls now turn their attention toward the future after another 40-win season. While the loss to Arkansas ended their postseason run, the 2026 campaign featured championship success, historic milestones, and another NCAA Tournament appearance. USF leaves the season with momentum and a foundation for continued success in future years.
