While the calendar may say May, college basketball never stops. For the UMass Lowell River Hawks, that means aggressively retooling the roster. Head coach Pat Duquette has been hard at work following the departure of four players to the transfer portal after the 2025–26 season.
Constructing a roster for the 2026–27 campaign, Duquette has already secured four high-impact additions. With impressive resumes across the board, the short-term future of River Hawks basketball looks bright. Here is a breakdown of the new faces:
Jayden Harris | 6’7″ Guard | Eastern Kentucky (Transfer)
Harris is a versatile wing who spent last season with the Colonels. He appeared in 29 games (3 starts), averaging 6.3 points and 2.6 rebounds. A highly coveted asset, Harris entered the transfer portal on April 6, visited Lowell on April 14, and officially signed on April 21. On3 rated him as one of the top available transfer options in the portal this cycle.
Jasiah Cannady | 6’3″ Guard | Mt. Zion Prep (MD)
Cannady is the crown jewel of this class and the highest-rated recruit in program history. A 4-star prospect according to ESPN, he is ranked as a top-10 player in Maryland. He recently cemented his status by winning MVP honors at the 2026 Lethal Shooters All-American game. Cannady, who signed back in November 2025, chose the River Hawks over several high-major and mid-major offers, including Mississippi State, Towson, Drexel, and Coastal Carolina.
Jaden Flemons | 6’3″ Guard | TMI Episcopal (TX)
Hailing from San Antonio, Flemons is a dynamic combo guard who committed to the program on April 2, 2026. He comes off an incredible high school season where he averaged 16.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2 steals per game. Known for his efficiency, he shot a blistering 55% from the field across 32 games.
Elhadji Diallo | 6’7″ Forward | Combine Academy (NC)
A native of Dakar, Senegal, Diallo committed in early April and brings significant size and defensive presence to the frontcourt. Rated as a 3-star recruit by 247Sports, Diallo spent a season with the Blue Checks in the Overtime Elite (OTE) league. In 459 minutes of action, he recorded 124 points and 121 rebounds while showcasing elite rim protection with 21 blocks. Perhaps most impressive is his ball security for a big man—turning it over just 26 times all season.
