Pittsburgh Steelers at Indianapolis Colts
NFL Week 12
Game-time: Monday, November 28th, 8:15 PM
- Vegas line: Indianapolis -2.5
Venue: Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN.
- Field: Field Turf

Plan of Attack
Overall
- Fire Matt Canada: The worst offensive coordinator in all of football. Till he is replaced with an actual NFL caliber offensive minded guy, the offense will stay stuck being dubbed the ‘Quicksand Offense”. No matter who has been at QB, that being Ben Roethlisberger, Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph, or Mitch Trubisky, the passing game has been a joke. Rarely are the receivers ever open or catching passes in open space. Good God, fire this guy.
Offense
- Establish run game: Najee Harris is looking better the last few weeks, and the Colts aren’t very stout vs the run.
- Kenny Pickett: The first rounder had a good first half vs the Bengals but disappeared in the 2nd half. It’s tough, but despite the offense he is forced to run, he’s going to have to suck it up for the last seven games and find a way to flourish, that being going through his progressions, stepping up in the pocket, and finding his open receivers.
Defense
- Bottle up Jonathan Taylor: The best way to stop the Colts is to take away their best weapon in Taylor and force Matt Ryan to beat you through the air.
- Get off the damn field: The 108 million dollar defense has been pathetic this year, and that trend has to cease pronto. Yes, some new blood is needed at key areas, but the stars of the D have to step up their play and stop allowing points to opposing offenses the very next drive after a scoring drive of their own. Stop the run, pressure Ryan, and get off the field on 3rd downs.
The Scoop
The door was slightly open last week before the Steelers took the field vs the Bengals, but Cincinnati promptly slammed the door shut.
It has been a disaster of a season for Pittsburgh, from Mike Tomlin, to Matt Canada, to the sluggish play by the team week after week.
This team needs upgrades everywhere, which may include the head coach if he won’t make the necessary changes this team massively needs, starting with acquiring an offensive coordinator that doesn’t set football back 50 years.
Now to this week, as the Steelers (3-7) head to Indianapolis to face the Colts (4-6-1) on Monday Night Football at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The game-plan on defense is to stop the Colts top weapon in Jonathan Taylor, who isn’t having the year he expected to have.
“We’ve got to minimize his impact on the game,” Tomlin said. “We can’t allow them to be on schedule and minimize possession-down football via an effective running game.”
Colts interim head coach Jeff Saturday knows what he’ll need to do to get Indy their 5th win of the year, and his 2nd win of his coaching career in three games.
“We want to be a physical football team that sets the tone and the tempo from running the football,” Saturday. “I’ll take ‘28’ against just about anybody.”
“28” of course is Taylor, and Steelers defensive end Cam Heyward and his teammates know they have their work cut out for them.
“He’s a home-run hitter and hits the hole hard,” Heyward said. “Any crease he gets, he can take off.”
On offense, Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett knows he can find more success if he can get the ball to his fellow rookie in wide receiver in George Pickens.
“He’s the best athlete probably that I’ve played with,” Pickett said. “Just the freak things that he does, the catches he makes that are so nonchalant to him. I kind of look around like, ‘I’ve never seen that before in my life.’
“He’s a unique guy that can do a lot of great things. We’ve just got to continue to get him the football.”
Pickens, drafted out of Georgia, sees progress after each game played, and expects that to continue.
“As far as learning and getting into a groove, at first we all were new so every day was going to be new,” Pickens said. “I am brand new to the system, same thing with him. It’s just growing as we go through the season. Stuff is going to start to click. The opportunities are going to start to rise.”
It would also help Picken’s cause if the team could find a way to get the ball to it’s leading receiver in Diontae Johnson, who still has yet to catch a touchdown pass this year.
“You see it, but what can I do?” Johnson said. “What can I do differently out there? What can coaches do differently as far as getting me in different spots? Those are a few things we’ve been talking about this week.”
Prediction: Steelers 24 Colts 20

Quarterback
Kenny Pickett | #8
Has had his ups and downs as a rookie starter, but it’s hard to gauge his progress in an offense designed for junior high school. Statistically, had his best game of the year vs the Bengals last week.
