The NFL enters 2026 with several loaded running back rooms. Many teams now rely on two backs to carry their rushing attacks. That approach can create fresh legs and different problems for defenses. It also gives offenses more flexibility throughout four quarters. These ranking weighs recent production, talent, projected roles, and overall fit. Injuries and changing depth charts also factor into the rankings. With that in mind, these are the NFL’s top running back duos.
- Omarion Hampton and Keaton Mitchell — Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers have plenty of potential in their backfield. Hampton showed impressive ability when healthy during his rookie season. Meanwhile, Mitchell brings explosive speed and big-play potential. New offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel should create opportunities in space. That could help both backs attack defenses from different angles. Still, these ranking carries plenty of projection heading into Week 1.
- James Cook and Ray Davis — Buffalo Bills
James Cook enters 2026 after an outstanding 2025 campaign. He led the NFL with 1,621 rushing yards last season. Cook also scored 12 rushing touchdowns and added two receiving scores. Ray Davis gives Buffalo a physical complement behind Cook. His efficiency improved in several important areas last season. A larger role could make this pairing even more dangerous.
- Christian McCaffrey and the 49ers’ RB2
Christian McCaffrey makes almost any running back pairing dangerous. The veteran remains one of football’s most complete offensive weapons. He totaled 102 catches for 924 yards last season. McCaffrey also added seven receiving touchdowns during that campaign. His versatility gives Kyle Shanahan countless ways to create mismatches. The uncertainty around his backup keeps this duo outside the top seven.
- Jeremiyah Love and Tyler Allgeier — Arizona Cardinals
Arizona made a major investment in Jeremiyah Love. The Cardinals selected him third overall in the 2026 NFL Draft. Love dominated at Notre Dame before making the jump to Arizona. He averaged 6.9 yards per carry during his final two seasons. Love also caught 55 passes for 517 yards during that span. Tyler Allgeier brings valuable NFL experience to the pairing. However, Love recently suffered an ankle injury during preseason action. Arizona expects him to miss at least one week.
- Kyren Williams and Blake Corum — Los Angeles Rams
The Rams have one of football’s most productive young backfields. Williams has produced consistently since taking over the starting job. He recorded 1,533 scrimmage yards and 13 touchdowns last season. Corum also took another major step during his second NFL season. He averaged 5.1 yards per carry across 145 rushing attempts. Sean McVay can use both players without changing his offensive identity. That versatility gives Los Angeles another major offensive advantage.
- D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai — Chicago Bears
D’Andre Swift enjoyed one of his best seasons in Chicago. He averaged 4.9 yards per carry during the 2025 campaign. Swift also posted a strong 54.7 percent rushing success rate. Kyle Monangai provided a powerful change of pace. The rookie averaged 4.6 yards per carry last season. Together, they give Ben Johnson two different styles to deploy. That combination could become even better during Johnson’s second Chicago season.
- Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson — New England Patriots
New England has a fascinating combination of experience and explosiveness. Stevenson brings power, patience, and proven NFL production. Henderson brings speed and big-play ability. The pair combined for 1,514 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns last season. Both backs also produced several explosive runs. That makes this pairing difficult for defenses to predict. If Henderson improves as a pass blocker, their ceiling rises significantly.
- Derrick Henry and Justice Hill — Baltimore Ravens
Derrick Henry continues to defy expectations as he gets older. The veteran rushed for 1,595 yards last season. He also averaged 5.2 yards per carry. Justice Hill provides a completely different skill set behind Henry. He excels in pass protection and contributes as a receiver. That makes him an ideal complementary piece for Baltimore. Henry provides power and explosiveness. Hill provides versatility and reliability in passing situations. Together, they give Baltimore one of football’s safest backfields.
- Jahmyr Gibbs and Isiah Pacheco — Detroit Lions
Jahmyr Gibbs enters 2026 as one of the NFL’s elite backs. He has averaged more than five yards per carry every season. He also has 49 total touchdowns through three NFL seasons. Gibbs became Detroit’s true lead back last season. He also exploded as a receiver with 77 catches. Isiah Pacheco gives Detroit another physical runner. However, Pacheco recently dealt with a sprained MCL. Dan Campbell still expects him to return for Week 1.
- Bijan Robinson and Brian Robinson Jr. — Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons have arguably the NFL’s best running back duo. Bijan Robinson enters the season among football’s most dynamic players. He produced 1,478 rushing yards and seven touchdowns last season. Robinson also caught 79 passes for 820 yards and four touchdowns. That production shows how dangerous he can become as a receiver. Brian Robinson Jr. gives Atlanta a proven power option. He rushed for at least 733 yards during each of his first three seasons. He then joined San Francisco and rushed for 400 yards last season. Now, Robinson gets a larger role behind Bijan in Atlanta. That could give the Falcons tremendous depth and physicality.
The Bottom Line
The 2026 NFL season features an impressive collection of backfield tandems. Several teams can attack defenses with two legitimate weapons. The Rams, Patriots, Ravens, Lions, and Falcons stand out most. Still, injuries could quickly change the conversation during training camp. For now, Atlanta owns the strongest combination of talent and depth. Bijan Robinson remains the centerpiece of that impressive backfield. Brian Robinson Jr. gives the Falcons another proven weapon. If both players stay healthy, Atlanta could dominate opposing defenses on the ground. That makes the Robinson pairing the duo to watch entering the 2026 season.
