The 2026 PGA Championship heads to Aronimink Golf Club this week. The historic Donald Ross design returns to major championship golf for the first time since 1962. The course will play as a par 70 measuring 7,394 yards. Players will face thick, rough, deep bunkers and demanding bentgrass greens throughout the tournament. The biggest storyline surrounds Rory McIlroy entering another major in outstanding form. McIlroy captured his second straight Masters title last month at Augusta National. He now seeks another Wanamaker Trophy and his seventh career major championship. McIlroy already owns two PGA Championship victories during his legendary career. His strong driving and long iron play should fit Aronimink perfectly this week.
Defending champion Scottie Scheffler also arrives with massive expectations. Scheffler won the 2025 PGA Championship by five shots last season. The world number one recently posted three straight runner-up finishes entering this tournament. His consistency makes him one of the favorites again this week. Scheffler’s controlled iron play could become crucial on Aronimink’s challenging greens. Several LIV Golf stars will compete against the PGA Tour’s biggest names this week. Jon Rahm enters with major championship experience and tremendous power off the tee. Bryson DeChambeau remains dangerous because of his distance and aggressive approach. Brooks Koepka returns searching for another major championship victory. Tyrrell Hatton and Joaquin Niemann also strengthen the LIV presence. Eleven LIV golfers are expected in the championship field this year. Drawing attention is Jordan Spieth.
Spieth needs the PGA Championship to complete the career Grand Slam. Only six golfers previously achieved that accomplishment in men’s golf history. Spieth enters with improved form and confidence after several strong finishes this season. Young stars could also challenge during the weekend at Aronimink. Cameron Young continues playing some of the best golf of his career. Xander Schauffele remains one of golf’s most consistent major contenders. Ludvig Åberg could become another serious threat with his ball-striking ability. The demanding course setup should reward complete golfers throughout the championship.
Aronimink may not overpower players strictly with length alone. Instead, the course demands precision, patience, and excellent approach shots into difficult greens. Many experts believe the winner must avoid mistakes around the putting surfaces. The closing stretch also could create dramatic moments during Sunday’s final round. Fans should expect another exciting battle between golf’s biggest stars this week.
