The third week of the 2026 college baseball season provided very little shake-up at the top of the rankings. From showcase sweeps in Arlington to mid-week upsets in Baton Rouge, the hierarchy of the “Big Four” and beyond has officially shifted as we head into March.
Here is the recap of the week’s action.
UCLA Stays No. 1 After “Globe Life” Gauntlet
Despite a mid-week stumble against San Diego State, the UCLA Bruins (10–2) silenced any doubters by sweeping through the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series at Globe Life Field.
- The Statement: The Bruins notched consecutive wins over No. 19 Tennessee, No. 22 Texas A&M, and a thrilling 10-inning finale against No. 4 Mississippi State.
- The Verdict: UCLA remains the unanimous No. 1 in both the D1Baseball and Baseball America polls for the third consecutive week.
Trouble in the “Box”: LSU’s Mixed Bag
It was a week of milestones and missed opportunities for the defending champion No. 2 LSU Tigers (11–3).
- The High: Coach Jay Johnson earned his 200th win at LSU during a Saturday victory over Northeastern.
- The Low: The Tigers’ perfect start ended with a thud. LSU suffered a mid-week upset to McNeese and followed it up with a wild 13–10 loss to Northeastern on Tuesday, where a late 8-run rally fell just short.
The Last Unbeaten: Texas (12–0)
While others have blinked, the Texas Longhorns have not. Moving up to No. 3 in the latest D1Baseball rankings, the Horns are the last remaining undefeated team in the Top 5.
- The Dominance: Texas completed a 4–0 week, highlighted by a masterclass in pitching from Riojas, who dominated the weekend action. They currently lead the nation in shutouts (4) through the first three weeks.

Risers and Fallers
- 🚀 Rising Fast: USC (11–0): The Trojans are the story of the West Coast. After a stellar sweep at Cal Poly, USC vaulted from unranked all the way to No. 22 in the Baseball America poll. They are one of the few double-digit win teams still without a loss.
- 📉 The Coastal Slide: Coastal Carolina (7–4): Last year’s national runners-up had a rough weekend, dropping two of three. They plummeted from No. 9 down to No. 16 in the D1Baseball rankings.
- 🆕 New Arrival: UTSA (10–1): The Roadrunners officially entered the D1Baseball Top 25 at No. 25. Their “infectious grittiness” (as described by Kendall Rogers) has made them the early darlings of the mid-major world.
Top Performers of the Week
- Blaine Brown (Tennessee): Despite some off-field distractions regarding a Rice-related collective, Brown remains a force on the mound, though the Vols went 1–2 in Arlington.
- Caden Sorrell (Texas A&M): Set the tone for the Aggies’ weekend finale with a monster home run against Arizona State, helping the No. 22 Aggies finish their Arlington trip 2–1.
- Rex Hauser (Maine): While Maine is struggling (2–10), Hauser earned AE Rookie of the Week honors with a massive 3-for-4, 2-HR performance at Winthrop.
