The University of Tampa Spartans continued their perfect start to the 2026 season, improving to 8–0 after a dominant three-game sweep of the Post Eagles. Following a successful home series where the Spartans surrendered just two runs to Montevallo, they welcomed an Eagles squad playing their first games of the season. While Post showed resilience early, they could not contain a Tampa offense that averaged 11 runs per game over the weekend.
Game One: Tampa 5, Post 2
The Spartans wasted no time setting the tone, scoring three runs in the first inning to take an early lead they would never relinquish.
- The Irigoyen Show: Catcher Jhoander Irigoyen was the offensive catalyst, launching a two-run home run in the first and adding a solo shot in the fourth to give UT a 4–0 cushion.
- The Response: Post managed to cut the lead in half in the fifth, but Tampa’s pitching—led by Robert Satin’s 10 strikeouts—stifled any further comeback.
- The Closer: 2B Brayden Woodburn provided the insurance with a solo home run in the eighth, his second of the season, to seal the 5–2 win.
Game Two: Tampa 19, Post 8
In a high-scoring affair that featured a season-high in runs for the Spartans, Tampa’s bats exploded for 18 hits to overcome a shaky defensive performance.
- A Slow Start: In a rare occurrence, the Spartans failed to score in the first two innings, but they more than made up for it with a seven-run explosion in the fourth.
- Power Surge: Walker Vanecek delivered the blow of the game with a massive grand slam, finishing the day with 5 RBI. Irigoyen and Woodburn were equally lethal, combining to go 5-for-5 with 4 RBI each.
- Defensive Miscues: Despite the offensive fireworks, UT committed five errors, allowing Post to hang around with eight runs before the Spartans pulled away for the 19–8 victory.
Game Three: Tampa 9, Post 0
The series finale was a masterclass in pitching as the Spartans’ staff combined for a one-hit shutout to complete the sweep.
- Bailey’s Brilliance: Graduate left-hander B.J. Bailey earned his second win of the year, tossing six dominant innings with five strikeouts and allowing only a single hit to Jayren Foster.
- Efficiency: While the offense didn’t reach the 19-run heights of the previous day, they remained efficient with a five-run sixth inning that put the game out of reach.
- Key Contribution: Brayden Woodburn continued his hot streak, going 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk as Tampa coasted to a 9–0 finish.

What’s Next for the Spartans?
The No. 1 Spartans look to extend their 8-game winning streak as they remain at home for their next conference challenge.

- Goal: A series sweep would push the Spartans to a perfect 11–0 or 12–0 start to the 2026 campaign.
