VANCOUVER, BC — The Vancouver Goldeneyes delivered a statement performance on Saturday afternoon, lighting up the scoreboard in the first period and never looking back en route to a dominant 4-0 shutout victory over the visiting New York Sirens at the Pacific Coliseum.
The win snaps a three-game road losing streak for the Goldeneyes, and, most importantly, marks the franchise’s first-ever regulation victory in PWHL history.
The First-Period Flood
Vancouver came out with explosive energy, scoring three unanswered goals in the first 20 minutes to shock the Sirens, who, until this game, had been the only PWHL team yet to concede a goal in the opening period this season.
- Breaking the Drought: Forward Abby Boreen scored the opener, marking the first time all season that Vancouver had been the team to score the game’s first goal.
- Quick Succession: Captain Ashton Bell followed up shortly after with her first point of the season, and the quick-strike offense continued as Jenn Gardiner netted the team’s first-ever shorthanded goal just 63 seconds later. This pair of goals was the quickest consecutive scoring sequence in Goldeneyes’ history.
Vancouver held a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission, delighting the crowd of 9,502 on “Kids Takeover Day.”
Maschmeyer’s Masterclass
While the offense provided the early cushion, goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer slammed the door shut, recording the first shutout in Goldeneyes’ franchise history.
- Maschmeyer turned away all 28 shots fired her way, stretching out in the first period for a critical stick save that preserved the lead and the shutout bid.
- The shutout was particularly impressive given that the Sirens have been one of the league’s best shot-generating teams, outshooting Vancouver 28-20 and maintaining a positive shot differential in all five of their games this season.
