Aliquippa Quips Report

WPIAL Championships (20) | PIAA Championships (5)
Week Two: Aliquippa Quips (1-0) vs Avonworth Antelopes (2-0)
The Quips started off 2025 by clobbering Belle Vernon 42-7, and now welcome the top team in AAA, the Avonworth Antelopes, to The Pit on Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM
Quarterback Marques Council threw for 281 yards, three touchdown passes, and added another on the ground in the rout. Council led the Quips with 75 yards on the ground.
Qa’lil Goode was a recipient on a 63-yard touchdown, with Akiva Woods going 70 yards on a screen pass, and Anthony Ingram caught a 33 yard touchdown pass.
Joseph Work rushed nine times for 56 yards.
Avonworth is led by quarterback Carson Bellinger, who has thrown for 405 yards and five touchdowns. His top receiver is Luca Neal who has 11 receptions for 254 yards and four TD’s.
Dimitri Velisarus is the top back with 286 yards rushing and five touchdowns.
It will be a tough night on the Aliquippa home sideline, as one legendary and beloved figure, Mr. John Evasovich, won’t be present and watching his beloved Quips– normally standing just a few yards from the team around the 25 yard line, no matter if it was hot, cold, raining, or snowing.
Mr. Evasovich, a 1958 Graduate of Aliquippa, passed away during the off-season, on March 31, 2025.
Johnny was a three sport athlete at Aliquippa, was certified as the shortest starting guard in the NAIA history while playing football at Juniata College, and then served our country as an officer in the United State Navy for nine years.
We all know that Mr. E will be there in spirit, and his Memory will always be Eternal.
