Just a few days ago, the MLB held its draft. This draft is different because it moved so fast, and many of the players who are drafted start in the minors. This is cool to see, both high school and college players get drafted. A high school player went first overall, which is great how talented players are. One of the many universities that had players drafted was the University of South Florida. If you get the chance to attend a baseball game at Red McEwen Field, you will notice how many players are now playing in the MLB. The Bulls had three pitchers get drafted.
This is the first time the USF Bulls have had three players drafted. Back just three years ago in 2022, the Bulls had Orion Kerkering (RHP), Jack Jasiak (RHP), Brad Lord (RHP), and Carmine Lane (UTL). The three players that were taken in 2025 were Corey Braun (LHP), Austin Newton (RHP), and Bryce Archie (RHP). Most MLB fans know that pitching is what wins championships, no matter what level. Throughout the season, it was fun to see these three pitch and make a great impact on the USF Bulls baseball. So, let’s see why these three were drafted and see how they will do in the majors if they make it there.
Corey Braun (LHP)
Braun was the ace of the pitching staff for the USF Bulls. The left-handed pitcher was the first Bull to come off the board, going in the eighth round to the Athletics. The Athletics used to play in Oakland, but now they are playing in Sacramento. They got a new stadium deal that would have them play in Las Vegas if the deal does not fall through. Braun finished with USF’s ERA in 3.71 over 97 innings and a whooping 97 strikeouts. His signature moment during the season was a complete game shutout versus the Tulane Green Wave. Braun allowed only two hits and struck out six in that game. At the end of the season, he had eight wins, which was the most on the staff.

Austin Newton (RHP)
Newton was the next Bull, and just two rounds after Braun. He went into the tenth round to the Colorado Rockies. Now the Rockies are dead last in all the MLB. The organization is in a rebuild, and possibly if Newton makes it through their minor league system, he could help the Rockies get out of the basement of the league. Newton was a versatile arm, making eight appearances and four starts. During those appearances, he had 22 strikeouts in 22 2/3 innings. His best performance was in the AAC tournament, where he struck out six hitters and helped the USF Bulls advance to the semifinals.

Bryce Archie (RHP)
The last Bull that came off the board was right-handed pitcher Bryce Archie. He went into the 14th round to the Cincinnati Reds. Archie appeared in 15 games, making three starts. One of the biggest eye-opening outings for him was against the number nine Florida State Seminoles. In that game, he struck out four in three innings and limited the Seminoles to just three hits. Across 44 1/3 innings posted a stellar 3.25 ERA with 36 strikeouts and had three wins. Additionally, he was the backup quarterback for the USF Bulls football team. The fans are all hoping the three of them have successful careers.
