CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College football senior defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku (Williamstown, N.J.) earned Consensus First-Team All-American status with his inclusion on The Sporting News All-America Team. Ezeiruaku is the 13th Consensus All-American in BC history and the first since 2013.
In order to claim “Consensus” All-American status, a player must earn first-team honors from at least three of the big five All-America Teams, which includes the Walter Camp Football Foundation, American Football Coaches Association, Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America and The Sporting News. Ezeiurku landed on the first teams released by the AFCA, AP, and Sporting News. Additionally, he was a second-team All-American by Walter Camp.
Ezeiruaku led all of FBS in sacks per game at 1.38 and was tops in the country in total sacks in the regular season with 16.5; which tied the BC single-season record. He posted at least one sack in eight games and two or more sacks in six games. Ezeiruaku posted a career-high 3.5 sacks in the season finale against Pittsburgh.
More than a pass-rusher, Ezeiruaku led the Eagles with 80 tackles this season. His 20.5 tackles for loss were a team-high and second in FBS. Ezeiruaku added three forced fumbles and 15 quarterback hurries.
Ezeiruaku was voted the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-ACC selection. He was a semifinalist for the Bednarik, Lombardi, and Walter Camp Player of the Year awards. Locally, he claimed the Bulger Lowe Award from the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston and Season Gold Helmet Award from the New England Football Writers.
Ezeiruaku is Boston College’s first All-American since Zay Flowers earned third-team honors from the AP in 2022. He is BC’s first Consensus All-American since running back Andre Williams was a unanimous first-team selection in 2013.
