We are less than 24 hours away from the start of the college basketball season. The UMass Lowell River Hawks have added to their coaching staff prior to opening night. His name is Bryan Dougher, an assistant coach who has been a part of the Fairfield University program for the last four years.
His primary duties were player development, game planning, scouting, and recruiting. He also helped analyze game film and provided scouting reports which helped in preparing the Stags for games. He was a part of the staff in 2020-21 that reached the MAAC Tournament Championship. He has experience in the league as a player having played for Stony Brook when they were a member of the conference. He was a starting point guard from 2008-12, was a member of the All-Rookie team as a freshman, and as a sophomore, he set the school record for threes in a season with 95. He set the school’s record for 3-pointers with 337. He was a two-time captain and two-time regular season champion of the league. He would finish his career as a three-time All-Conference selection.
When his college playing days were over, Dougher tried his hand at pro ball. He went overseas and played in Melbourne, Australia for the Ringwood Hawks. He was a two-time team MVP, as well as the team’s leading scorer. He helped the Hawks win the Biv V Championship in 2014.
When his playing days came to an end, Bryan began his coaching career. He returned to Stony Brook where he was director of basketball operations from 2014-16. He oversaw player development, team management, and administrative duties. He also assisted in recruiting efforts and campus visits.
He has also worked at Rutgers University as director of operations, helped with game day activities, and coordinated game day operations. Outside of college basketball, Dougher worked at Honest Games where he evaluated transcripts and prepared progress reports with regard to students’ eligibility to the NCAA.
