USF Bulls Blownout in Loss to Tulane, 45-10

The USF Bulls looked lost for the second game in a row. In my preview piece, I mentioned that the Bulls could not fall behind the Tulane Green Wave. Well, that is what happened as USF did not score until being down by 31 points. Now, they are 0-1 in the conference, and the two teams leading the conference are service academies. The Army Black Knights and Navy Midshipmen are both undefeated. USF enters its first bye week and on the horizon are the Memphis Tigers, another tough conference opponent. The question is can they correct the mistakes they have made in the last few games?

Head Coach Alex Golesh said that what happened in the game made him sick. On top of that, quarterback Bryum Brown has an injury. He left under his power but was spotted on the sideline in a walking boot. At this time, there is no update on how serious the injury is. It might be good news that the USF Bulls have a week off. The other aspect that has been an issue is on the defensive side of the ball. Once again they had no turnovers and they had only one when playing the Miami Hurricanes. In the Alabama game, the defense was good until the end. It might be time to make some adjustments. They have tried to play zone and mix in some man-to-man. The Memphis Tigers will test the Bulls defense.

The Bulls’ offense has some big questions with the first being if Bryum Brown is hurt and how long will he be out? The fans are hoping that he will not miss any games. The week off will help him heal. Maybe the walking boot was precautionary so he did not prolong the injury. The other aspect is that this was the time for backup quarterback Bryce Archie a chance to shine. He struggled going 4 to 10 for 41 yards. The ground game that was a big part of both the Bulls’ wins against Bethune Cookmand and Southern Miss has been nonexistent in the last two games. They only had 26 rushing yards yesterday. When an offense becomes one-dimensional it is hard to win games.  This will be something they will have to fix.

USF will have to try and regroup after the last two blowout losses. There is still a ton of football left for them to get back on track. If there is a person who can and has the swagger to do it that would be Alex Golesh. The offensive and defensive schemes are both going to have to get better as they welcome the Memphis Tigers to Raymond James Stadium for a night game on Friday the 11th. The best thing for the Bulls is to go through the film and find whatever positives they can and throw the rest of it out. Hopefully, USF can bounce back and play a complete game and get a win over the Memphis Tigers.
