As the trade line is closing, the Tampa Bay Rays moved Amed Rosario. He was traded back to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Pete Fairbanks and Yandy Diaz were down talking to the media pregame. Those are some of the names of the other player that could be moved, Brandon Lowe. Listening to local radio the fans are unhappy that the players they fell in love with are being shipped off. It all comes down to the business of baseball. Like the Rays the Miami Marlins are in the same boat as they are also fire-selling. The game’s pitching matchup was Edward Cabrera for the visiting Miami Marlins who has a 1-3 record, 7.04 ERA, and 49 strikeouts. The TB Rays went with Jeffrey Springs who is returning from not one but two Tommy John surgeries. With the trade of Zack Eflin, it is good to have Springs return.
The Miami Marlins were in their road black tops, silver bottoms, and black hats. The Rays’ uniforms were baby blue tops, white pants, and navy blue caps. The crowd erupted as the opening lineups were announced and Yandy Diaz was still in uniform. It did not take long for the Marlins to get on the board as Emmanuel Rivera hit his first home fun of the year a two-run shot. Jeffrey Springs lasted 3 ⅔ giving up six hits, two runs both earned, three strikeouts, and one walk. Newcomer Christopher Morel got the Rays on the board with a solo home run. Just a short time after the homer by Morel first-baseman Jake Burger hit the second homer of the game for Miami. The Marlins lead 3-1. Miami’s starting pitcher Edward Cabrera left with an injury.
Cabrera went five innings giving up three hits, one run, one walk, and seven strikeouts. Josh Lowe came up and a double to right center field scoring Brandon Lowe and pulling the Rays to within one run of tying the game. The biggest hit of the middle innings for the Rays was a RBI single by catcher Ben Rortvedt. His hit allowed two runs to score and gave Tampa their first lead. Then Yandy Diaz got himself a two-RBI single giving the Rays more runs. As the game went into the final three innings TB Rays had a 6-3 lead. In the seventh, the Marlins brought in Austin Kitchen who made his major league debut. 17931 was the announced attendance for tonight’s game. Tampa would add another run in the bottom of the seventh as Jose Caballero hit an RBI double that scored Josh Lowe.
Caballero advanced to third base on the throw trying to get Lowe out at home. He would then just a few pitches later steal home plate to put the Rays up 8-2. Tampa added another run in the bottom of the eighth, as Yandy Diaz scored on an RBI double by Brandon Lowe. Like Austin Kitchen, the Rays also have a relief pitcher making his major league debut in Hunter Bigge. He would only allow one hit and the Rays would win 9-3. The game started rough for Tampa but they rallied with a five-run sixth inning. Yandy Diaz went 2 for 5 with two RBI and he scored a run. Ben Rortvedt had a good game going 2 for 4 with two RBI. This was a solid victory for the Rays who can now relax. The team can focus on trying to make the playoffs.
