It is that time of the year again. It’s the first weekend of December marking the time for the Army-Navy game. This game is one of the biggest rivalries in all of college football. It is one of the oldest games played every year. This game means more than just a normal college game. Many players will receive their degrees or move on to the next level. For this game, the players will be going on to their respective branches of the US military. They will go off and help us with the freedoms that we love every day. This year the game will take place at Gillette Stadium home of the New England Patriots. The last few years it has taken place at Lincoln Financial Field home of the Philadelphia Eagles. For the respective branches, the cadets will fill the stadium.
This game decides who wins the Commander in Chiefs trophy. If Army beats Navy, they will win the Commander in Chief Trophy. One of the cool things is to see what uniforms each team will wear. The Black Knights will wear an all-gold uniform and helmets. The Midshipmen will be wearing navy blue uniforms and helmets. This will mark the 124th meeting between these two teams. Currently Navy leads the series. The funny thing is that Army will be joining the AAC which the Navy is a part of. It was announced that the game will not be a conference game in 2024 but maybe in the future, it might be. This is one game that I do not miss watching because it is so cool to see future US soldiers on the field.
The Army Black Knights (5-6 ) finished their season on a three-game winning streak, one win short of being bowl-eligible. Army beat Air Force 23-3 to start that three-game winning streak. The other two wins came against Coastal Carolina and Holy Cross. We will see at 3 P.M. if they can beat the Midshipmen. We all know that Army does not throw the ball that much. In their last win, they had 365 total yards on the ground. The Black Knights run a triple-option offense. Look for Army to do just that and try to out-rush their opponent. They had a total of 64 plays in their win over Coastal Carolina.
The Navy Midshipmen finished the season with the same record as Army at 5-6. They lost to Air Force earlier in the year. So, it will be interesting to see who wins the game and who gets the trophy. In their final game, they were beaten by the AAC champion the SMU Mustangs. The Mustangs defeated the Tulane Green Wave this past Saturday night to win it all. At one time the Midshipmen used to run the triple option offense but do not anymore. They mix it up on offense. Navy’s defense must be ready for the Army running attack. They allowed 118 yards to the Mustangs. In the end, it will be a great game no matter who wins. This is what I call America’s game.
