The TSU football duo of LaDarius Owens and Jacob Williams were named to the 2023 All-SWAC Football Team on Monday.
A senior from Houston, Owens was named to the first team after amassing a record-breaking season at running back. Owens rewrote the TSU record book this season as he finished with 3,114 career rushing yards while also setting a single-season record of 1,370 yards while also compiling 24 rushing touchdowns, which ranks third all-time in TSU history. He also leads TSU all-time in all-purpose yardage with 4,310 yards.
Owens, who was recently named a Walter Payton Award Finalist, ranks second nationally in all-purpose yardage and fifth in rushing yards.
Williams earns his first-ever All-SWAC honor after a record-breaking season that saw him finish the year with 106 tackles and 18.5 tackles for loss. The Fresno, Texas native became TSU’s first 100-plus tackler since 2004 as he currently ranks 19th nationally and seventh in tackles for loss. His 18.5 tackles for loss marks the most at TSU since 2013.
