With 25 days until the start of the college football season, the Boston College Eagles are back on campus and hard at work to get ready for the season opener on Saturday, September 2 vs Northern Illinois. While the team continues to prepare for the season, members of the team are finding themselves on preseason watch lists. Transfer wide receiver Ryan O’Keefe has his name on two such lists. First, there is the Biletnikoff Award, which recognizes the best receiver in FBS. For O’Keefe this will be his second time to be named to this list. Last season while playing for the University of Central Florida, O’Keefe caught 73 balls for 725 yards. He also surpassed 1,000 all-purpose yards for the second year in a row gaining 448 kick return yards and 222 on the ground. O’Keefe was also named to the Hornung Award list. This award is presented to the most versatile player in major college football.

The John Mackey preseason watch list has BC tight end George Takacs on it. Despite a season that was plagued by injuries, Takacs still managed 26 catches for 256 yards and one score. The Eagles passing game could use a full season from the graduate student from Naples, Florida. College sports are not always about what you do on the field. It is also about time spent in the community. Taji Johnson, BC’s WR from Powder Springs, Florida understands this. He is one of 100 candidates who have been nominated for the Wuerffel Trophy. This honor is named after the Florida QB and Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel, who was able to use his on-field success and turn it into a lifetime of service. This award is considered to be one of the most meaningful awards handed out in college football. Johnson is an active member of a student-run program called Eagles for Equality that helps to advance Boston College diversity, equality, and inclusion through outreach education and service.

Because of bad weather on the practice field, the team held a workout inside of Fish Fieldhouse on Tuesday. It was also the second day of pads for the team. Quarterback, Emmett Morehead had a pretty good day throwing three touchdowns to three different receivers. However that is not to say that the defense has not had its moments. The front four has at times won the battle at the line of scrimmage putting pressure on the quarterbacks during 9-on-9. The defensive backfield has taken two interceptions to the end zone. The Eagles offense has been using the pistol formation to work on different looks in the running game on Sunday. Something that last year was a non-factor in the performance of the group. The good news is with five practices in the books, Boston College is heading toward that opening Saturday with no early issues to deal with. The team is getting their work in and no injuries have popped up.
