The Tampa Bay Rays have started their spring training games. Some do not know that Hurricane Ian damaged the Rays’ spring training facility in Port Charlotte. So, for a couple of weeks, they are playing at the Wide World Sports Complex at Walt Disney World. It was announced that they are only playing one game at the Wide World Sports Complex, and it is happening on the 28th against the New York Yankees. The rest of the games before the season will take place where they call home Tropicana Field. In the game against the Yankees, the Tampa Bay Rays will be wearing the Orlando Rays’ uniforms and hats. Tampa Bay did not get good news with one of their key pitchers.

Tyler Glasnow is coming off Tommy John surgery. Glasnow told manager Kevin Cash that he had some soreness in his arm. Well, after having an MRI, it showed that he had a Grade 2 oblique strain. With the diagnosis, he will miss six to eight weeks and the start of the Tampa Bay Rays season. He was supposed to be part of a one-two punch with Shane McClanahan at the top of the rotation. Cash says it might be beneficial for Glasnow to be out early in the season so that he would be around for the playoffs and a possible World Series run. Pitching is a key aspect for the Tampa Bay Rays. This is the one thing that was an issue last year for Tampa Bay was the injury bug bit many of their players.

The Tampa Bay Rays have played seven spring training games so far. The Rays are 3-4 with their last win being a 14-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles which the Rays will see many times during the regular season. Many believe that outside of the Boston Red Sox, the other four teams have made improvements and could win the AL East. The key star in the 14-2 win was Wander Franco. Franco was 3 for 3 with four RBIs. He accounted for 1/3 of the Tampa Bay Rays runs. Randy Arozarena also had a good game going 1 for 2 with 3 RBIs.

So far, the Tampa Bay Rays have been able to score runs. That has been an issue for a while. If the main players in the lineup continue to produce, there should be no problem during the regular season. I know that we only see the starting pitchers for a short time they are still hitting. The fans of the Rays are hoping that the runs keep coming. They also hope that no more injuries come up. This roster needs to stay healthy for this team to make it to the postseason once again. It should be a good game and test against the team that their fans can’t stand the Yankees. The Yankees will be one of the teams that the Rays will have to play well against during the regular season. The Rays and Yankees have gone back and forth with who wins the AL East.
