Three Eagles Leave the Yard in Friday Win

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Boston College baseball team homered three times in a 9-1 win over Bucknell at Shipyard Park on Friday afternoon. The win moved the Eagles to 3-1, while the Bison fell to 0-4.

Junior first baseman Joe Vetrano (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) started the scoring early in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run to left. BC built on a three-run lead in the sixth with a three-run home run by senior center fielder Barry Walsh (Sterling, Mass.). Graduate catcher Peter Burns (Reading, Mass.) hit the Eagles’ third home run of the day with a solo shot to right in the eighth.

Eagles graduate right-hander Henry Leake (Burbank, Calif.) threw three-shutout innings in the start. He allowed just one hit and struck out five, but walked three and hit another in the no-decision. Junior RHP John West (Shrewsbury, Mass.) took over in the fourth and turned in four innings of one-run ball. West (1-0) struck out six and walked a pair.

Right-hander Will Greer (0-2) went five innings in the start for Bucknell. He gave up four runs on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Vetrano finished the day 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. Walsh went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and a stolen base. Burns added a double in a 2-for-4 effort with two runs scored.
