PITTSBURGH  — Mason Madsen scored 14 points and Jaeden Zackery added 11 but it was not enough as Boston College dropped a 77-58 decision at Pittsburgh on Tuesday night.

Madsen made 5-of-10 shots from the floor, including 4-of-8 from outside.  Zackery added six boards and three assists.

It was a back-and-forth start to the game with four lead changes and two ties through the first seven minutes,  Trailing 10-5 with 14 minutes left in the half, BC scored 11 straight to take a six point lead, after a CJ Penha transition bucket made it 16-10 with just under 12 minutes to play,  BC would build as much as a seven-point lead – after two Quinten Post free throws made it 24-17 with 8:13 to go in the period.

Pitt responded with six unanswered to start a 15-2 run, going ahead 32-26 with 4:20 and taking the lead for good.  The Panthers would lead by nine – 40-31 – at the break.

Back-to-back buckets by Zackery got it as close as five – 44-39 with 16:12 to play – but Pitt would score 10 straight as the BC offense went cold.  The Eagles missed 13 straight field goals as the deficit grew to double-digits.  BC would trail by as many as 27 in the second half,

Fouls and free throw margin were again a familiar refrain for Boston College in ACC play.  Pittsburgh held a 19-9 edge in free throw attempts, while BC was whistled for 21 fouls to 13 for the Panthers.  Leading scorers Makai Ashton-Langford and Quinten Post each fouled out, playing a season-low in minutes.

The Panthers – winners of six straight – now sit atop the ACC standings by a half-game.  Pitt connected on 48.1% of its field goal attempts, including making 11-of-25 from the perimeter.  BC shot 33.9% for the game, including 9-of-26 from beyond the arc.

Boston College travels to Florida State on Saturday, Feb. 18.  Tipoff in Tallahassee is set for noon and the game can be seen live on regional sports networks around the country.
