In the gold medal game, it was Team Canada and Team Czech. The Canadians would win the gold medal in overtime 3-2. These players are the future of college hockey. This is the time when they say the cream will rise to the top. The holidays are now over so now it will be back to normal. The schedule will get back to normal. The teams in the middle of the divisions will try and play their butts off.

In Hockey East, there were some good games in college hockey. The first was Army vs Providence. The game ended in a 3-3 tie. It took place at West Point. For Providence senior forward Parker Ford had a goal and an assist. One of the top schools in the country. Yale played a game against Vermont. Just like the Army vs Providence game that ended in a tie. The score ended 1-1. Jacques Bouquot’s goal in the first period was the only goal for Vermont in the game. The only game that did not end in a tie was between New Hampshire and Sacred Heart. Sophomore forward Liam Devlin and senior forward Ryan Black each had a goal and assist. New Hampshire defeated Sacred Heart 4-1. Merrimack and UConn are tied on top of Hockey East as another week goes by.

In the Big 10 hockey, the Minnesota Golden Gophers still have hold of the top spot in the conference. There were four games from this past week. The first was Ohio State vs Michigan State. The Buckeyes scored six goals with two of them scored by Joe Dunlap. Dunlap now has 10 goals. He helped Ohio State to a 6-0 win. The next game was between Norte Dame and Wisconsin. This game was closer with the Fighting Irish coming out on top. Trevor Janicke and Mathieu De St, Phalle both had two goals. Janicke’s goals helped Notre Dame beat the Badgers 6-4. St. Cloud and Minnesota played a home-and-home series. St. Cloud won the first game 3-0. There were three individual players that scored goals. In the second game, the Golden Gophers won in overtime 2-1. Logan Cooley’s goal was the deciding one.

In the CCHA there were four games played. The first was between Michigan Tech which scored three goals in the first period and that is all they needed. Tristan Ashbrook’s goal was the winner. Boston University only had two tallies. Devin Kaplan scored midway through the third period, but it was not enough. The next game was between Northern Michigan and Minnesota State. This game was close. The Mavericks won the game 5-3. Two of the five goals were scored by Brendan Furry. In the third game, we saw Minnesota Duluth and Bemidji State. The Bulldogs came out on top over the Beavers 5-2. The winning goal came off the stick of Jesse Jacques in the second period. The last game was also close between Bowling Green State and Lake Superior State. The Falcons had three goals in the first two periods.

The winning goal came in the second period of the stick of Ryan O’Hara. The Lakers scored two goals in the third period but that was not enough. It was a great week of college hockey. We have just two and a half months left. The standings stayed the same, so let’s hope we see some of these teams in Tampa. Unlike last week, there was only one blowout and that came once again at the hands of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Let’s see what happens next week in the land of college hockey.
