BOSTON COLLEGE VS. VIRGINIA TECH – ALL-TIME SERIES

  • Today’s game marks the 35th meeting between the two schools.
  • Boston College is 21-13 all-time vs. Virginia Tech. In ACC play, the Eagles are 15-11 versus the Hokies.
  • Last season, BC earned a 68-63 win at home on Jan. 22, 2022. BC holds a 13-4 edge over the Hokies at home.
  • BC has won three straight over VT, dating back to Jan. 25, 2020.
  • From 2000-04, both teams were members of the Big East. Boston College was 6-1 against Virginia Tech in Big East play.

BOSTON COLLEGE IN ACC REGULAR SEASON PLAY

  • Boston College is 97-195 in 17+ seasons in the ACC.
  • BC’s best ACC mark came in its inaugural season, going 11-5 in conference play in 2005-06 en route to a third place finish.

  • Boston College is 339-201 all-time – and 65-81 in ACC games – played at the Silvio O. Conte Forum.
  • BC was 10-8 at home in 2019-20 – the 18th time that BC won 10+ games at Conte Forum in a single-season.

  • Jaeden Zackery has scored a season-high 16 points three times – all wins (Wyoming, Rhode Island, Stonehill).
  • Prior to the 16-point game vs. Wyoming, he had tallied 11 points in his previous two games – including a season-low four points against Tarleton State, going without a field goal for the first time in his career to that point (39 games).
  • Against Wyoming (8-8) and Rhody (7-8), he went to the free throw line 16 times, connecting on 15.
  • When Zackery goes to the free throw line at least five times, Boston College is 3-1 in 2022-23 and 6-2 all-time.
  • The sophomore guard has been the high scorer on four occasions and leads the Eagles in scoring (11.3) through 12 games.

CJ PENHA JR. – CERTIFIED BUCKET GETTER

  • CJ Penha Jr. has reached double digits in the scoring column in six of his 12 games this season.
  • The grad transfer scored a game-high 16 points on Dec. 3 at Duke, making 7-of-13 shots from the floor in 33 minutes.
  • He ranks third on the Eagles in scoring (10.3 ppg), ranks second in FG% (52.6%), and is tops in 3FG% (36.8%).
  • Last time out, he added 15 points in 23 minutes off the bench against Stonehill.
  • In the 2022-23 opener, Penha Jr. came off the bench to score 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting (2-4 3FG) against Cornell.
  • He added 13 points at Nebraska and had 12 points in two games at the Paradise Jam – George Mason and Tarleton State.
  • Penha Jr. leads BC in field goals made (50) and ranks second on the Eagles in 3-pointers made (14).
  • The grad transfer compiled nearly 1,600 points at Taylor University (NAIA) and Trevecca Nazarene (DII), including 155 3FG’s.
  • During his 100 games played at both Taylor and Trevecca, Penha Jr. scored 20 or more points on 35 occasions.

LANGFORD JR. GETTING LEGS UNDER HIM

  • DeMarr Langford Jr. earned his second start of 2022-23 and saw a season-high 35 minutes of play versus Villanova.
  • The junior scored a team and season-best 13 points, connecting on six field goals including his first 3-pointer of the year.
  • He is averaging 9.3 points per game over his last three outings for the Eagles.

McGLOCKTON EARLY LEADER FOR ACC SIXTH MAN OF THE YEAR

  • Among all ACC players without a start, Devin McGlockton leads the league in scoring (7.3) and rebounding (5.1), and is second in blocks (1.1) through the first 12 games of the season.
  • He is the only BC reserve – and one of only eight bench players in the ACC – to log a double-double this season.

BLOCKED SHOTS AND HIGHLY EFFICIENT LAST FIVE FOR McGLOCKTON    

  • Devin McGlockton has made an impact off the bench over the last seven games for Boston College.
  • During that span, the redshirt freshman is averaging nearly 10.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.0 blocked shots.
  • He is also connecting on 64.9% of his shots (24-47), including 3-of-4 3FG and 18-of-24 FT during the span.
  • He is tied for 12th in the ACC in blocks per game (1.1 bpg) and 73rd nationally in block percentage (7.3%) per KenPom.
  • Devin McGlockton had career-highs in points (20) and rebounds (11) en route to his first career double-double at Nebraska.
  • Against Rhode Island, the redshirt freshman scored the evental go-ahead basket with 1:07 remaining in the game.
  • He also sealed the victory with two free throws with eight seconds remaining; scoring six of his 11 points in the final 1:40.
  • Against Wyoming, McGlockton had 12 points (5-8 FG; 2-3 3FG), four rebounds, an assist, a steal, and three blocks.
  • The last player to post a similarly complete stat line – Steffon Mitchell against Duke (12p/5r/1a/1s/3b).
  • McGlockton is the first Boston College player in at least 26 years to post that stat line coming off the bench.
  • McGlockton leads Boston College in FG% (32-50, 64.0%), effective FG% (67.0%), and true shooting percentage (69.2%).

THE ARTIST FORMALLY KNOWN AS PRINCE

  • Prince Aligbe announced his presence with authority, connecting on the gamewinner in the opener vs. Cornell on Nov. 7
  • Aligbe led Boston College in scoring with 16 points, while also grabbing nine rebounds – narrowly missing a double-double.
  • Five of his nine boards came on the offensive glass.  He also added an assist and two steals in 24 minutes of action.
  • The 6-7 forward from Minneapolis scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half, including eight in the final 4:00 of play.
  • Aligbe became the first Boston College freshman in 11 years to lead the Eagles in scoring in his first career game.
  • On Nov. 14, 2011, newcomer Patrick Heckmann led BC in scoring (19 points) in the season lidlifter vs. New Hampshire.
  • After an injury early against Detroit Mercy, he missed the next six games before playing four minutes at Duke on Dec. 3.

  • Last season, when BC attempted 15 or fewer 3-pointers, it was 8-4; with 16 or more 3-point attempts, it was 5-16.
