One of America’s greatest pastimes is watching football. Those who are NFL fans are incredibly passionate about the sport, even if they do not play themselves. But some do love to watch and play football, and sometimes they want to know what it is like to be a real NFL star. They may look into the training that goes into being an NFL player. If someone is looking into training like an NFL star, there are certain things they can add to their routine to get an idea of what they do.
Hit the Gym
First, if someone wants to train like an NFL player, they must head to the gym. Although it may surprise some to know that those who play for the NFL are not obsessed with lifting weights, they focus more on core exercises. Not to say they never lift weights, but they focus on exercises such as box jumps, front squats, ankle, and squat jumps, and kettlebell lunges.
A good thing to remember is to take breaks between trips to the gym. NFL players do not want to overexert their bodies or injure themselves, so they take breaks.
Load up on Protein and Stay Hydrated
Along with exercise, NFL stars focus on what they put in their bodies. Of course, they focus on consuming plenty of protein, whether that be through meats such as fish, poultry, or beef, but they also use the best protein powder to keep them strong and keep up with their muscle mass.
Along with consuming a large amount of protein, it is vital for an NFL player to stay well-hydrated. Some NFL stars drink between fourteen and thirty-seven glasses of water a day. This may sound insane, but that is what is necessary for these professional football players. For an average person, they should be consuming one to two liters of water a day.
Long-Distance Runs
Along with strengthening their core, NFL stars must also work on their endurance. That is why they go for long-distance runs.
They may not go on ten-mile runs, but they still run. Since NFL players usually run in short burst sprints during a game, they usually will sprint and then have rest intervals when they go for runs. So for those who want to train like an NFL player, do not just go for long runs, but run in short bursts of speed followed by intervals of rest.
Exercise at Home
For an NFL star, working out and staying fit is part of their jobs, but for an average person, it is not. This makes it so that there are times when it is impossible to get to the gym. When those days come up, it does not mean they should take a break. There are ways to work out at home. A person can do some short exercises at home to stay in shape. NFL stars do not take breaks, and if one is looking to train like them, they do not take breaks either. There may even be an option to follow along with a virtual gym class.
Hit the Field
An NFL star hits the field constantly, and if one is looking to train like them, they should be on the field at least once a week. Whether someone is a college student or a younger adult, they should aim to get on the football field and practice. Of course, they can practice alone, but if they have a group they can play a game of football with, that is even better.
Even if someone is not an NFL star, they can still find ways to train like one. By getting into the gym, consuming plenty of protein, staying hydrated, working out at home, and hitting the field occasionally, they can get an idea of what it is like to be a professional football player.
