The Boston College Eagles embark on their next to last road trip of the season, as they head to Raleigh, NC. to meet up with the #17 ranked North Carolina State Wolfpack. The Eagles (2-7, 1-4) may be doing this with a new man at the controls of the offense. Freshman Emmett Morehead made his first start at quarterback last Friday night vs Duke. He made the start because Phil Jurkovec was sidelined with a knee injury. Morehead made the most of the opportunity, as he went 27-of-45 for 330 yards and four touchdowns. The Eagles did lose the game 38-31. However, it was a positive look into the future of the program.
Morehead became the first BC quarterback since 1981 to throw four TDs in his first career start. He is the third Eagles QB to throw for 300- yards in his first start. His completions, passing yards, and touchdowns are all records for Boston College vs Duke. Another bright spot was freshman WR Joe Griffin who recorded his first 100-yard receiving game (103 yards) on five catches. He also caught two for touchdowns. The story of this game was Duke jumping out to a 24-7 lead and forcing BC to play catch up most of the night. The Eagles’ offense did get on a roll in the second half, but the deficit was too big to overcome.
The Eagles lead the all-time series with NC State (7-2, 3-2) 10-8. This is the first time BC has made the trip to Raleigh since 2018. This will be Senior Day in Raleigh and will be the sixth sellout of the season. The highest number since 2003. State heads into this game with a 16-game home winning streak, the sixth-best streak in FBS. A win on Saturday would give NC State its longest winning streak in school history.
State boasts one of if not the best placekicker in the country. Christopher Dunn has had quite a year kicking the football for the Wolfpack. He is one of only five kickers who has not missed either a field goal (18) or an extra point (24). He has gone 9-for-9 in field goals from 40+ yards. He has made seven FG that have either tied the game or given his team the lead. He ranks second in the ACC in kick scoring, third overall in scoring with 455 points, and second in field goals. He is a semi-finalist for the Lou Groza award. The NC State offense has been great at protecting the ball, they have not turned the ball over in the last three games. On the year, this unit has turned the ball over only eight times which ranks them third in the conference and 15th in FBS. Freshman quarterback MJ Morris was 18-of-28 for 210 yards and three touchdowns. He was sacked twice. On defense, the Wolfpack came up with four sacks of Demon Deacon QB Sam Hartman.
This will be another tough test for Boston College on the road in the ACC.
