LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell baseball team (3-6, 0-0 AE) will head to Durham, North Carolina to take of the Duke Blue Devils (6-5, 0-0 ACC). The River Hawks will then travel to Charleston, South Carolina for a weekend series against the College of Charleston Cougars (7-4, 0-0 CAA).

SERIES HISTORY
The River Hawks and Blue Devils have never met before Tuesday’s matchup.

UMass Lowell and College of Charleston have never met before this weekend.

LOOKING AT UMASS LOWELL

UMass Lowell enters the weekend after going 2-1 last weekend. The River Hawks fell to Wake Forest on March 4 before sweeping Central Michigan on March 5 and 6, outscoring the Chippewas 22-11 in the two games. Senior Robert Gallagher (Mullica Hill, N.J.) leads the team with a .367 batting average on the season. The senior has 11 hits, seven RBIs, and three home runs in 30 at-bats. Freshman Brandon Fish (Londonderry, N.H.) has gotten off to a hot start to his rookie campaign, batting .294 with 10 hits and 12 RBIs. He has also hit two home runs, three doubles, and a triple in nine games.

ON THE MOUND

Freshman LJ Keevan (Holden, Mass.) picked up his first collegiate win on Saturday against Central Michigan. The rookie has ten strikeouts this season and a 4.76 ERA. Senior Joshua Becker (Burlington, Mass.) recorded his first win of the season in Sunday’s victory over Central Michigan. The veteran eight strikeouts on the year. Sophomore Michael Quigley (Halifax, Mass.) will take the mound for the River Hawks on Tuesday against the Blue Devils. He has struck out seven batters in 4.2 innings this season and will take on Duke’s Cooper Stinson (0-0). Wednesday’s starting pitchers are to be determined.

SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS

Duke enters Tuesday’s matchup after going 2-1 against Bucknell. The Blue Devils offense flourished, outscoring the visitors 41-10 in three games. Chad Knight leads the way batting.361 on the year with 13 hits. Graham Pauley has 15 hits and nine RBIs in 11 games and a .652 slugging percentage. On the mound, Marcus Johnson leads the way with 24 strikeouts. Cooper Stinson, who has pitched eight innings with a 4.50 ERA, will start for Duke on Tuesday.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS

The Cougars went 0-3 against High Point in their most recent series and will take on Penn on Tuesday and Wednesday before welcoming the River Hawks. College of Charleston is 7-4 on the season. JT Marr leads the team in batting average (.400) and slugging percentage (.575). Marr also leads the team with 16 hits and is second on the team with a .455 on-base percentage. On the mound, William Privette leads the way with a 1.26 ERA and 15 strikeouts with a 1-0 record.

STOLEN GOODS

Robert Gallagher has four stolen bases on the year in four attempts. Sophomore Freshman Jacob Humphrey (Standish, Maine) is also 4-2 on stolen base attempts in his rookie campaign. Fritz Genther (Kingston, N.Y.), senior Gerry Siracusa (Kinnelon, N.J.) have also each stolen a base this season.

A-OKKKKKK

Ryan Towle leads the pitching core with 17 strikeouts on the year. Sophomore Brendan Williams (Auburn, N.Y.) has sat 10 batters this season, while fellow sophomore Michael Quigley (Halifax, Mass.) has struck out six. Seven other River Hawks have recorded at least one strikeout this year for UMass Lowell.  LJ Keevan has also struck out 10 batters this season.
