BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Texas Southern’s John Walker III and Joirdon Karl Nicholas for SWAC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors for their outstanding performances during non-conference play this past week.
Named the SWAC’s Player of the Week, Walker III led Texas Southern in scoring (14.0), rebounding (8.5), assists (5.0), and blocks (2.0 ) in TSU’s past two games. He also shot 50 percent from the field as Texas Southern finished 1-1 with a win over No. 20 Florida. Walker III scored 13 points with seven rebounds and seven assists and two blocks at Florida and contributed to TSU’s first double-double of the year at Louisiana Tech.
Nicholas was tabbed the SWAC’s Impact Player of the Week as he averaged 13.5 points and six rebounds with 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals while also shooting 66 percent (12-of-18) from the field this past week. He scored 14 points with six rebounds and two blocks in the Tigers’ win against No. 20 Florida. Nicholas contributed 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds and two steals at Louisiana Tech.
TSU is back in action next Tuesday at UTRGV.
