The 2021-22 college basketball season is now just weeks away. Believe it or not, coaches are starting to look ahead to the 22-23 season. Programs across the country are heavily into the recruiting process that will put that class together. In the ACC, Boston College’s new head coach, Earl Grant, may have scored himself and the program a recruit that will help with the identity change the program really needs.
His name is Prince Aligbe, He is a 6-6 senior from Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis who recently has chosen BC to continue both his basketball and his education. Aligbe is considered a defensive forward who has been a starter for the Redhawks during his time at the private school. He chose the Eagles over California from the Pac-12 and Ohio State from the Big-10 among others. His home state school Minnesota got into the process late and while former coach Richard Pinto did offer Prince a scholarship, it was not followed up by the new coaching staff for the Gophers. Aligbe did battle an ankle injury last season but when he was able to be on the court he did average 11.2 points per game. He is considered the number-3 ranked prospect in the state, #110 in the country, and the 20th ranked power forward in the nation.
His decision to come to Boston College and be a part of coach Grant’s first class was based on the staff’s understanding of the development and the fact that “everything is new.” BC is rebooting the basketball program from the ground up after finishing last season in last place in the Atlantic Coast Conference with an overall record of 4-16. Changes needed to be made and those adjustments started with the hiring of Grant. They hope to continue that with the recruiting of Aligbe. Let’s not kid ourselves here, more must be done for the Eagles to move up the ladder in the ACC.
Prince’s high motor and his ability to finish around the rim are some of the things that the Eagles have lacked in recent years. Coach Grant’s first recruiting class is getting notice from around the college basketball landscape. As of this writing, the BC class for 2022-23 is ranked #23 with the arrival of Prince Aligbe. So far so good for fans of BC basketball.
