Pittsburgh Steelers: What Type of Season Will We See In 2021?

PITTSBURGH- There seems to be some speculation that the 2021 Pittsburgh Steelers will be awful. Will this team be so bad that its playoff push will be an unrealistic, unattainable goal? Will the Pittsburgh Steelers finish close to fourth in the AFC North?

The concern seems to be the offensive line which could regress this season. However, the defense should be an elite unit once again and will certainly keep the Steelers in a lot of games.

Should there be an expectation that the Steelers won’t score many points? Will Ben Roethlisberger have his worst season? Will Pittsburgh rank 20 or below in points per game?

This isn’t the first time of chatter that the Steelers will rapidly decline. However, with such a great defense and a few offensive playmakers who can make big things happen, this team is still playoff-bound. Granted, it may not happen with receiver James Washington who requested a trade. However, Chase Claypool and JuJu Smith-Schuster will make big things happen. Rookie running back Najee Harris looks like a runner who is perfectly capable of gaining 1,000 or more yards in his rookie season. With his ability to plow through defenders, he will be a red zone threat as well. It’s also important to take his receiving skills into consideration.

The defense still has T.J. Watt, Stephon Tuitt, Melvin Ingram, Cameron Heyward, Joe Haden, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Terrell Edmunds. Pittsburgh’s defense ranked among the league’s best last season As it finished third overall in the league. That should not change much this season as Pittsburgh still has a top-level defense.

It’s important to avoid underestimating Pittsburgh again. Cleveland’s and Baltimore’s rival is still destined to make the playoffs even if it means squeaking in at #7. This Pittsburgh Steelers team is one that has the knack of finding a way to get the job done.
