The Tampa Bay Buccaneers dropped to 0-3 after losing 23-16 to the Minnesota Vikings. The game took place Sunday at Raymond James Stadium. Tampa Bay entered the matchup desperate for its first win. Instead, Minnesota improved to 3-0 with another strong defensive performance. The Vikings controlled the game despite an inconsistent offensive showing. The Buccaneers struggled to create consistent offense throughout the afternoon. Minnesota constantly pressured Baker Mayfield and disrupted Tampa Bay’s rhythm. The Vikings opened the scoring with a 54-yard field goal from Will Reichard. Then, Myles Price changed the game with an 86-yard punt return touchdown. Tampa Bay answered before the quarter ended. Mayfield connected with rookie receiver Ted Hurst III for a 40-yard touchdown. That play gave the Buccaneers some much-needed momentum.
However, Minnesota continued finding ways to answer Tampa Bay’s offensive progress. The Vikings took a 17-10 lead into halftime. Kyler Murray returned as Minnesota’s starting quarterback after missing two games. He showed flashes of the explosiveness that made him dangerous throughout his career. Murray connected with Jordan Addison on a 41-yard touchdown during the second quarter. Addison became especially important after Justin Jefferson left with an ankle injury. Jefferson caught two passes before leaving the game. The Vikings eventually ruled their star receiver out for the remainder of the contest. Despite losing Jefferson, Minnesota’s defense kept Tampa Bay from taking advantage. Brian Flores repeatedly sent pressure toward Mayfield. The Vikings eventually sacked Mayfield six times. That pressure created problems for Tampa Bay’s offense. The Buccaneers could not consistently sustain drives or establish their running game.

Bucky Irving entered the game as one of Tampa Bay’s biggest offensive weapons. Minnesota repeatedly stuffed Irving and limited Tampa Bay’s rushing attack. Still, the Buccaneers kept fighting. Tampa Bay added points in the second quarter and stayed within striking distance. The defense also made several important stops. Unfortunately, the offense could not capitalize on enough opportunities. Mayfield finished the game with 17 completions on 34 attempts. He threw for 163 yards and one touchdown. He also absorbed six sacks against Minnesota’s aggressive pass rush. The Vikings finished with just 178 total yards through three quarters. Tampa Bay had 200 yards during that stretch. The Buccaneers still could not turn those numbers into enough points.
Minnesota added six fourth-quarter points to create more separation. Tampa Bay answered with another field goal, but the deficit remained too large. The Vikings ultimately walked away with a 23-16 victory. The result pushed Minnesota to 3-0 while dropping Tampa Bay to 0-3. For Tampa Bay, the early-season problems now look more urgent. The Buccaneers have lost three straight games to begin the season. Their offense has struggled to produce enough points when opportunities appear. Meanwhile, Minnesota continues winning without always playing spectacular football. The Vikings have now found different ways to win during their undefeated start.
The biggest concern for Minnesota involves Jefferson’s injury. His status could become an important storyline heading into next week’s matchup. For Tampa Bay, the focus turns toward fixing the offense. The Buccaneers must protect Mayfield better and find more consistency. The defense showed stretches of encouraging football against Minnesota. However, the offense needed more production to complete the comeback. Ultimately, Minnesota made the critical plays when Tampa Bay needed them most. The Vikings leave Tampa with a 23-16 victory and a perfect 3-0 record. The Buccaneers, meanwhile, return to the drawing board at 0-3.
