CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College redshirt junior tight end, Hunter Long has decided to end his collegiate playing career and enter the 2021 NFL Draft. Long finished his BC career as one of the most accomplished tight ends in school history. The junior led all tight ends nationally in yards and receptions in 2021.

“I would like to start by thanking my family,” Long said. “Mom, Dad, Jessica and Hayley, you do not know how much your support has meant to me and how much it has helped me through the highs and lows of my career. I would like to thank all of the coaches that have had a hand in molding the player that I have become. Two coaches I’d especially like to acknowledge are Coach Leonard and Coach Shimko, for I would not be here without your guidance and support. To my brothers at BC, I would not have wanted to play next to anyone else. The brotherhood we formed will last forever and I can’t wait to watch you all achieve greatness.”

Long has been the top receiving tight end in the nation in 2020. The New Hampshire native leads all tight ends nationally in receptions (57) and receiving yards (685). He is eighth among all tight ends nationally with five touchdown receptions.

He finished second in Boston College single-season history for receptions by a tight end, trailing only former Consensus All-America tight end Pete Mitchell’s 66 receptions in 1993.

“We could not be happier and more supportive of Hunter’s decision to enter the NFL Draft,” said Hafley. “Hunter has been a terrific ambassador on and off the field for our program and we can’t wait to watch him play on Sundays.”

For his career, Long finished with 89 receptions for 1,297 yards and nine touchdowns.

Long led Boston College with 509 receiving yards in 2019. He finished the season with 28 receptions and two receiving touchdowns. His 72-yard touchdown reception at Louisville was the longest reception of his career a year ago.
