BOSTON – With the start of the 2020-21 college basketball season less than a month away, the America East Conference announced its men’s and women’s basketball schedules on Monday. Each of the 20 #AEHoops programs are scheduled to play 18 conference games apiece starting in December.

As announced on Oct. 19, the America East Board of Presidents approved a scheduling format that prioritizes health and safety for student-athletes, coaches, and staff. While the double round-robin format was maintained, teams will play weekend series where a team hosts the same opponent on back-to-back days for two games in order to reduce travel. Starting conference play in December allows for maximum flexibility, including open weekends later in the season to accommodate makeup games.

“We are excited to return to competition with the start of the 2020-21 basketball season,” said America East Commissioner, Amy Huchthausen. “We acknowledge this will be a unique season with many variables both within and outside of our control but believe this format along with our health and safety protocols will best position each institution and the conference for basketball competition. By prioritizing conference play, reducing travel, and preserving flexibility, this schedule will give us the best opportunity to successfully navigate this season in the safest way possible.”

Schedule Highlights

  • Thirty-one players who have earned All-Conference, All-Rookie, or All-Academic honors in the past return in 2020-21.
  • NJIT is set for its first season in America East as the league’s 10th member.
  • New Hampshire will travel to NJIT for the first women’s conference game on Dec. 5, while the Highlanders and Wildcats open up the men’s league season in Durham on Dec. 12.
  • Full-scale conference play starts on Dec. 19-20 and takes place on mostly Saturdays and Sundays through February.
  • One of the five men’s matchups on Feb. 18 will air on ESPNU.
  • The majority of #AEHoops home games will once again air on ESPN+ or ESPN3 this season.
  • Information regarding the 2021 #AEPlayoffs will be announced at a later date.
