CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – BC continued preseason camp with practice No. 17 on Tuesday morning inside a steamy Fish Field House. The Eagles have just this week remaining for preseason camp before classes resume next Monday at Boston College.

Boston College continued its COVID-19 testing of football student-athletes, coaches, and staff and the most recent results again returned with zero positive cases. Overall, BC has administered 1,235 COVID-19 tests to football student-athletes, coaches and athletics department staff, with one positive test that occurred in late June after football student-athletes returned to campus. The one student-athlete has since recovered.

“We keep talking to the guys to control what you can control and right now that’s trying to do their best every single day,” head coach Jeff Hafley said. “So far, so good. We’ve been able to push on the way we have. We have great kids. I want to give them credit for being able to do all this. You have great protocols and I want to give credit to our doctors. Without them, we wouldn’t have a chance between the players and the protocol.”

Hafley was asked Tuesday about the progression he has seen from transfer quarterback Phil Jurkovec through 17 practices this preseason.

“Phil’s getting a lot of reps now and he’s getting better every day,” said Hafley. “You can see his confidence growing, he’s more comfortable in the scheme. I just think he’s got to continue to play football. It’s something he hasn’t done, but the arm strength is there, the speed is there. Now you’re starting to see the confidence, in himself, and you’re starting to see some leadership from him. That’s been very positive for us.”

Practice Notes: Tuesday’s practice was a red day, with no contact for the players. Hafley has rotated between a green day (with contact) and red day throughout preseason camp … during 11-on-11 work, Monday, junior tight end Hunter Long continued his stellar play throughout August with a sensational, one-handed reception from Jurkovec. The two have been on the same page throughout camp as Long looks to be one of the top offensive threats in the passing game for the BC Eagles in 2020 … Jurkovec showed off tremendous touch on several throws during teamwork Monday, dropping the ball into tight windows for chunk plays … true freshman Ozzy Trapilo and redshirt freshman Christian Mahogany both earned some reps with the first-team offensive line on Monday … Trapilo has been impressive in his first camp with the Eagles and has shown a tremendous upside at offensive tackle. Mahogany flashed at practice throughout his true freshman season in 2019 and could lineup at guard or tackle for the Eagles … sophomore quarterback Matt Valecce threw a dime to sophomore running back Peter Stehr on Monday for a long gain down the sideline … sophomore safety Tyler Days came down with a one-handed interception during team period yesterday … sophomore linebacker Joe Sparacio recorded a sack during Monday’s team period.
