Spinners Jimenez Records 13th Multi-Hit Game In Loss

ABERDEEN, MD – Going into Tuesday night’s game, the Lowell Spinners, proud affiliate of the 2018 World Champion Boson Red Sox, looked to nip their three-game slide right in the bud when they faced the Aberdeen Ironbirds, affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.

The Spinners (23-12), however, saw their bats be quieted as they could only muster five hits in a 9-0 loss to the Ironbirds at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium – their third loss in a row.

Gilberto Jimenez was the strongest hitter in the game for Lowell, who recorded a 3-for-4 effort. In doing so, he recorded his team-leading 13th multi-hit game of the season. Antoni Flores and Alex Erro recorded the other of the Spinner’s four hits. All four were singles.

The Spinners best opportunity came in the top of the third inning, but could not capitalize as Stephen Scott and Cameron Cannon struck out, stranding the bases loaded.

After scoring just three runs earlier in the game, the Ironbirds erupted for six runs and sent 11 men to bat in the bottom of the eighth inning. The six runs tied a season-high for runs allowed in one inning for Lowell.

Two Spinners made their debuts at new positions as Cannon made his professional debut at second base and Scott at first base. The start at first base gave Scott a start at three different places since being drafted in the 10th round out of Vanderbilt.

Lowell is back in action on Wednesday night when they take on Aberdeen again, looking to snap a three-game losing skid. They will send Ryan Zeferjahn to the hill for his first solo start since being drafted in the third round. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Aldo Ramirez got the start for the Spinners but was handed his first loss of the season. He went 4.0 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits. He did, however, only walk one and pick up six strikeouts on the day.

Jenrry Mejia, who joined Lowell on an MILB rehab assignment from the Pawtucket Red Sox on Tuesday. pitched one inning, allowing a hit and striking out one.
