BOSTON — Helping propel the UMass Lowell baseball team to a 4-1 week, which included a series win at Stony Brook to close out the regular season, junior Ciaran Devenney (Manalapan, N.J.) picked up his second America East Player of the Week honor of the season.
The catcher batted .467 with a .667 slugging percentage, along with a 1.113 ops to help the River Hawks end the season as winners in seven in the last eight contests. Devenney also scored five runs and drove in four, coming on a grand slam in the 8-1 win in the regular-season finale. He also picked up at least base knock in all five of the games, going 7-15.
His big hit gave the visitors some breathing room, capping off a five-run seventh inning and extending the River Hawks’ advantage to the seven-run gap. Devenney also picked up three hits in all three of his at bats in UMass Lowell’s 6-5 win in the Stony Brook series opener.
This marks the second time in a month for Devenney to be named Player of the Week, and gives the program seven weekly awards in 2019, including back-to-back players of the week. With help from Devenney’s efforts, the River Hawks enter the America East Championship as the four seed, and will begin tournament action on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
