The Owls took care of business on Sunday, beating Wichita State in overtime, 85-81. The team rallied behind a huge 11-0 run late in the contest to push overtime. In overtime, the team got clutch baskets and steals to win the contest.
The Owls were down big early on in their second AAC game. Wichita State controlled the pace of the game early on, and they scored with ease, even going on a huge 14-3 run early in the first half.
The Owls were not done, as Nate Pierre-Louis helped the Owls come back, leading a 7-0 run that brought them within eight. However, this was not enough, as the Shockers were easily able to take back control of the game, and they led by 13 points at the half, 45-32.
Temple needed to come out of the half ready to play some of their best basketball. They took a few minutes to get hot, but then they went on a 12-1 run that brought them within one point. Late in the game, it looked like Wichita State had the game won, as they went on a tear and led 74-63 with just over three minutes to play.
The Owls would not go down easily, as they fought back, with a huge 11-0 run to end regulation tied at 74, and push overtime.
The Owls and Shockers played a close overtime period, and with 52 seconds left, Shizz Alston, Jr. nailed a three-pointer to give his team the lead, 83-79. He then was able to seal the victory with two clutch free throws to win the game 85-81.
Alston led all scorers with 22 points, Pierre-Louis had 21, and Quinton Rose had 17.
The Owls improve to 11-3 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. As for the Shockers, they are 7-7 on the season, and 0-2 in the conference.
