We are underway in college hoops. The Atlantic Coast Conference is off to a great start in their non-conference part of their schedule. Here is some of what the league is doing.

Heading into the middle of this past week, the conference was undefeated in non-league games. The 30-0 start was the best in conference history, better than the previous mark of 29-0 that was set back in 2003-04. However, like all things, streaks do come to an end. The ACC did suffer two losses to end the perfection as both Georgia Tech and Boston College suffered defeats. The Yellow Jackets were beaten by the #5 Tennessee Vols and the Eagles were shocked at home by IUPUI.

The North Carolina State Wolfpack have been serving notice they will be a tough out this season. Their three and zero start has seen the Wolfpack win these games by an average of 46 or more points. They become the first team in conference history to do this. In their latest wins over UNC-Asheville and Maine, Devon Daniels led five players in double figures with 20 points, and Torin Dorn followed that up by leading three players with 15.

Two other teams that are winning by large margins are Louisville and Miami. The Cardinals received a career-high 20 from Jordan Nwora in their victory over Southern. Meanwhile, the Hurricane got a monster performance from Ebuka Izundu of 22 points and 19 rebounds in Miami’s win vs Stephen F. Austin.

Duke is at the top of the heap in the AP Top 25 poll, and they bring plenty of company with them. The conference boast seven teams inside the poll. Virginia at #4. UNC at #7, Florida State #14, Syracuse at #15, Virginia Tech #16, and Clemson #19. For the Blue Devils, it marks an NCAA-record 135th time they have been ranked at #1 by the AP.

Boston College junior guard, Ky Bowman has scored in double figures in 12 straight games and currently ranks second among all active ACC players with 1,131 career points. The Eagles are going to need a big season from Bowman if they are going to match last year’s win total of 19.

Jayden Hoard of Wake Forest became the first Demon Deacon freshman to record a double-double in his first game since Al-Farouq Aminu had 21 points and 10 rebounds against N.C Central back in 2008.
