ACC Football News & Notes
Three weeks into the college football season, and already things are being turned upside down. In the Atlantic Coast Conference, things are no different. Who would have thought that Florida State would be 0-2 in conference play already? Or that Boston College would crack the Top 25 for the first time since November 30, 2008. Yes, college football has gotten off to a bit of a crazy start in 2018.

Speaking of those Eagles, they are all over the weekly awards in the league.
The QB of the week is Anthony Brown. He threw for 304 yards and five touchdowns in the win over Wake Forest last Thursday night. He becomes the first BC quarterback to throw for over 300 yards and five TD in a game since Matt Ryan did it versus the Deamon Deacons in 2007. On the night, Brown was 16-for-25 passing. His performance also got him named to the Manning Award Star of the Week and on the Davey O’Brien Award Great 8 list.
For the second week in a row, A.J. Dillon was named running back of the week in the ACC. Dillon ran for 185 yards and one touchdown last week. In his career at BC, Dillon has now rushed for 2,021 yards. He is the 19th player in school history to rush for more than two thousand yards in a career. Dillon ranks 17th all-time at Boston College.
On the defensive side, Wyatt Ray was named Defense Lineman of the week. He set a single-game school record with his four quarterback sacks. He also recorded a career-best eight tackles and one QB hurry. Ray leads the nation with 1.67 sacks per game. His performance against Wake Forest also got him recognized as the Walter Camp National Defense Player of the Week.

Boston College’s three and zero start is their best beginning since 2007 when they started eight and zero under Matt Ryan. This week, the Eagles headed to Purdue as a ranked team (AP #23) to meet the Boilermakers for the very first time in football.
The ACC Rookie of the Week came off the bench to save the day last Saturday. Tommy DeVito came on in relief of injured Syracuse quarterback Eric Dungey and led his team to 24 points in the second half. He was 11-for-16 for a career-best 144 yards and one touchdown. DeVito also ran the ball seven times for nine yards and a score. The Orange scored on five of the seven possessions DeVito was in the game for as they handed the Seminoles their second conference defeat, 30-7.

Syracuse is perfect in its first three games in the Dino Barbers era. And for the eighth time in school history, the Orange won their league opener for just the second time since becoming a member back in 2013.
For the second straight year, the Duke Blue Devils are 3-0. It’s the first time they have done this in back-to-back seasons since 1987-88. They are the first Power 5 team to post multiple road wins over Power 5 opponents, (Baylor and Northwestern).
For the fourth consecutive year, the Clemson Tigers are undefeated. It’s also the seventh time in the last eight years. The Tigers have won 46 of their last 50 games dating back to 2014.
The ACC and the SEC have something in common. They are the only two Power 5 conferences to have six undefeated teams.
