ROAD TRIP ENDS WITH A LOSS
Spinners fall to Staten Island 10-4
STATEN ISLAND, NY – In the last game of the year against a team outside the Stedler Division, the Spinners (33-29) rolled into a day game in Staten Island (33-28) hoping to gain some ground in either the division or the Wild Card. Unfortunately, neither of those things would happen.
The Yankees jumped on starting pitcher Jose Gonzalez for five earned runs in only three innings. He struck out four while allowing six hits.
Lowell began to show signs of life in the top of the fifth when Korby Batesole and Grant Williams led the inning off with a pair of singles. Lane Milligan later drove in Batesole on a single and was followed up by a single by Devlin Granberg to cut the lead to three.
Kevin Biondic came in to relieve Gonzalez and threw two innings of his own, allowing five earned runs in the process.
Alberto Schmidt got the sixth inning started with a single. After Batesole moved him over to third on a single, Grant Williams drove in Schmidt with an RBI single.
Lowell added another in the eighth thanks to a double by Grant Williams, his fourth hit of the day, to cut the lead to 10-4.
The Spinners now return home for a make-shift double-header with the Vermont Lake Monsters on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 as the Spinners resume a suspended game from August 7th. All 12 games remaining on the Spinners schedule are against division opponents with the Spinners trailing the Tri-City ValleyCats by 1.5 games.
