Spinners take down Yankees 8-0 on the road

STATEN ISLAND, NY – After a disappointing loss on Monday night, the Spinners (33-28) rolled into Staten Island (32-28) with a vengeance and got back to their winning ways.

The offense came out of the gate hot with three runs in the first inning. Grant Williams and Korby Batesole led off the game with a pair of singles before Lane Milligan tripled home a pair and scored on an error to put Lowell on top early.

Starting pitcher Thaddeus Ward delivered a solid start for the Spinners. In four innings of work, he struck out three, allowed a pair of hits, and did not give up and runs or walks.

Batesole reached on an error to kick off the sixth inning and was moved over to third by Lane Milligan. Devlin Granberg brought him home with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to four runs. Xavier LeGrant then reached third on a fielding error by the Yankees and came in to score on a Trey Gann’s single.

Grant Williams doubled to lead off the eighth and scored on a double by Milligan. Later in the inning, Trey Ganns drove in a pair with a double to extend the lead to 8-0.

Reliever Hunter Haworth shined on the evening, throwing five no-hit innings while walking only one batter and striking out nine, picking up his fourth win in the process.

The win brings the Spinners within a half-game of the Wild Card lead but they remain 1.5 games back in the division following a win by Tri-City. Jose Gonzalez looks to finish off the Yankees on Wednesday with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
