After two rather forgettable nights in Aberdeen, the Lowell Spinners (30-27) returned home to begin a critical three-game series vs the first place team in the Stedler Division, the Tri-City Valley Cats (33-25).

After spotting the Valley Cats a 3-0 lead in the third, Lowell would storm back and score 11 unanswered runs to take game one of this series 11-3. With the victory, the Spinners moved to within two games of first place in the loss column.

The Spinners received contributions up and down the lineup, including several key two-out rbi base hits. Manager Cory Wimberly was especially happy to see his hitters come through in those moments.

Jose Gonzalez got the start for Lowell. He did give up the three runs that Tri-City got on Friday night, but he did manage to keep the damage to a minimum. That would be key, as the Spinners mounted their comeback.

The Valley Cats did all their scoring in the third with two men down. A double by leadoff hitter, Trey Dawson was followed by a walk to Enmanuel Valdez. Number three hitter, Carlos Machado roped a double down the left field line scoring both Dawson and Valdez. Machado would make it a three-run inning when Spinners third baseman Xavier LeGrant misplayed a groundball off the bat of Alex Holderbach. Just like that, it was 3-0 Tri-City.

In the fourth, the Spinners bats came alive against Tri-City starter Felipe Tejada, who went 3.2 innings giving up four hits and four earned runs. Tyler Dearden singled to left-center and moved to third base on a double by Devlin Granberg. Tyler Esplin snapped a 1-for-22 slump with a rbi base hit scoring Dearden. Lane Milligan made it a one-run game with a sac fly to center field. Two hitters later, Alberto Schmidt hit his first home run off the season off the scoreboard in left. The two-run blast gave Lowell a 4-3 lead.

The Spinners bullpen also gets a big thank you from their manager as they went five shutout innings in place of the starter Gonzalez. They gave up one hit, one walk, and collected eight strikeouts.

Lowell added to their lead by scoring a run in the fifth, four in the sixth, and two more in the seventh vs the Valley Cats relief core.

The Spinners got two-hit nights from five different players, with Schmidt and Granberg each delivering a multi-rbi night.

Oddanier Mosqueda, the third Spinners pitcher of the night, got the win and is now 3-1. Tejada took the loss and he is 4-4.

Game two of this series is Saturday night with first pitch set for 5:30 pm.
