SPINNERS SWEEP THEIR WAY BACK TO LOWELL

Long road trip ends as seven-game win streak continues

BATAVIA, NY – It’s going to be a fun bus ride back to Lowell (16-14) as the Spinners not only finished a six-game sweep of their road trip with a win over Batavia (12-17) but they also won their seventh consecutive game as they inch closer to the top of the Stedler Division.

Making his first professional start, Chris Machamer kept in close in three innings of work. While the offense was quiet early, Machamer struck out a pair while allowing four hits and an earned run.

Left-hander Rio Gomez came in from the bullpen for the fourth inning and allowed a solo home run to put the Muckdogs up 2-0. He settled in nicely after that, throwing 2.1 innings with a strikeout.

Lowell got on the board in the top of the fifth when third baseman Korby Batesole singled with a pair of runners on base to drive in Grant Williams.

The offense continued to chip away in the top of the sixth when Devlin Granberg singled and Xavier LeGrant drew a walk to put a pair on for Tyler Dearden. The tying run would come in to score on an RBI single from Dearden to make it 2-2.

The Spinners pulled ahead in the top of the seventh after a pair of two-out walks put a man in scoring position for Devlin Granberg. On a single to left, Jarren Duran came in from second to score his 22nd run of the season, tops in the New York-Penn League.

Knuckleballer Kevin Biondic provided 2.2 solid innings of relief for Lowell but surrendered a tying run in the bottom of the eighth inning though he did manage to pick up the win.

With Dylan Hardy on third base in the top of the ninth, the Spinners caught a break when Batavia made a fatal two-out fielding error off the bat of Cole Brannen to take a 4-3 lead.

Making his Spinners debut, reliever Kris Jackson shut down the side in the bottom of the ninth to pick up his first save of the season.

With a seven-game win streak in hand, the Spinners return to LeLacheur Park on Tuesday night to take on the Aberdeen Ironbirds. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. with ace pitcher Eduard Bazardo on the hill.
