LOWELL DROPS SECOND STRAIGHT

Spinners fall in extra innings to Tigers 3-2

NORWICH, CT – The end of a six-game series with the Tigers (9-12) came to a frustrating end with the Spinners (9-12) falling in extras 3-2 as Lowell fell into a tie for last place in the Stedler Division with Connecticut.

On a slow offensive day, starting pitcher Alexander Montero turned in arguably the best start of his career with 5.1 innings of one-run ball. He struck out nine while allowing only two hits and a pair of walks, lowering his ERA to 1.86.

Down a run in the top of the fifth, outfielder Tyler Esplin whacked a leadoff triple before Jonathan Ortega singled home the tying run to make it 1-1.

Left-hander Oddanier Mosqueda also turned in a solid performance out of the bullpen. In two innings of work, he was scoreless while striking out one and allowing a pair of hits.

The game headed to extra innings tied at 1-1 and the Spinners struck first. Due to the new Minor League Baseball extra innings rules, Nick Hamilton started the inning on second base. After advancing to third on a balk, Hamilton came in to score on a wild pitch to put the Spinners on top 2-1.

Unfortunately, the Tigers struck back in the first at-bat of the inning with Alberto Franco giving up a leadoff home run to give Connecticut the 3-2 walk-off victory.

The Spinners return to LeLacheur Park on Saturday for Star Wars Night at the ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 p.m.
