Boston College Spring Football Practice Report
Spring practice No. 6 for the Eagles in full pads
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College football team finished spring practice No. 6 in full pads Tuesday morning inside the bubble at Alumni Stadium. Tuesday’s practice was another opportunity for both sides of the ball to get better during the two-hour workout.
“We are really getting after it,” head coach Steve Addazio said about the start of spring practice. “We’re so much further ahead than we’ve ever been. There’s a bunch of young guys here because we have some injuries from the fall and the spring, we’re still developing the depth of our team, which I’m excited about.”
With some of the veterans out of action, it has allowed several position groups to get extended looks at some of the guys with less experience on the field. Defensive end is one position where sophomores Brandon Barlow and Bryce Morais have earned the bulk of the starting reps this spring.
In the secondary, sophomore safety Mike Palmer has been able to get an extended look with the first-team defense as senior Lukas Denis has shifted to corner due to injury with senior cornerback Taj-Amir Torres.
The Eagles are off tomorrow but will have the opportunity to watch nine of their former teammates compete at the program’s annual pro day for the NFL scouts. Wide receiver Charlie Callinan, defensive end/outside linebacker Harold Landry, defensive back Gabe McClary, defensive tackle Noa Merritt, cornerback Kamrin Moore, linebacker Ty Schwab, wide receiver Thadd Smith and cornerback Isaac Yiadom will compete at the pro day event. Former BC quarterback Patrick Towles will also work out for the NFL scouts at tight end.
Boston College resumes spring practice with closed sessions to the media on Thursday and Saturday this week.
Practice Notes: Over 30 NFL scouts have RSVP’d for tomorrow’s Pro Day at Boston College, including one general manager and two VP’s for Player Personnel … with returning starting quarterback Anthony Brown out this spring as he recovers from a knee injury, sophomore EJ Perry and redshirt freshman Matt McDonald have earned the majority of reps under center. Perry has been with the first-team offense while McDonald has directed the second-team unit … Perry threw a long touchdown to senior wide receiver Mike Walker as he got behind the secondary and McDonald connected with senior wide receiver Elijah Robinson on a deep ball during Tuesday’s practice … redshirt freshman cornerback Tate Haynes stepped in front of a quick pass for a pick-six during 7-on-7 drills … junior linebacker Davon Jones made a tackle behind the line of scrimmage on AJ Dillon during team period. Jones has been active all spring at linebacker for the Eagles … junior cornerback Hamp Cheevers made a beautiful pass breakup on a deep ball to senior wide receiver Jeff Smith.
