BC BASEBALL Drops Matchup against No. 20 Indiana
Metzdorf strikes out four and does not issue a walk in second start

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The BC baseball team fell, 4-0, to No. 20 Indiana in its second game of the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla., on Saturday afternoon.
There were no walks issued in the game by either pitching staff. After allowing three runs in the first two innings, junior starter LHP Dan Metzdorf settled in and threw 4.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
The Eagles (2-3) could not muster any runs against the 20th-ranked Hoosiers (5-1), collecting four hits on the day.
BC plays its final game of the Snowbird Classic against Rutgers on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m.

BC HIGHLIGHTS
  • Junior LHP Dan Metzdorf allowed three runs in the first two innings before settling in and throwing 4.2 scoreless innings. He allowed 10 hits, three runs and struck out four without allowing a walk in a 6.2-inning start.

KEY PLAYS
  • The Hoosiers took a 2-0 lead in the first and were able to tack on a run in the second and one in the eighth.
  • IU right-hander Pauly Milton kept the Eagles off the board for the entire game, throwing a complete-game shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hoosiers logged two runs in the first as Matt Lloyd hit a one-out solo shot over the left-field fence to start the scoring. With runners on first and third, Elijah Dunham hit sacrifice fly to center to plate the second run.
  • Indiana added a run in the second. With the bases loaded, Luke Miller scorched one to third. Senior Anthony Maselli nabbed it and dove for the bag for the force out but the runner was ruled safe, allowing a run in. Senior first baseman Mitch Bigras caught the third out against the fence in foul territory to end the inning.
  • The Hoosiers added a run in the eighth off junior RHP Thomas Lane. Lane entered the previous inning with two down and a runner on second and got the third out on three pitches. Logan Sowers led off the eighth with a double before Bigras made a diving catch on an infield popup for the first out. A bloop single to right by Ryan Fineman scored Sowers.

  • Indiana evened the all-time series at three wins apiece. The two teams had not met since 2011 and all games have taken place on neutral territory.
  • This was the Eagles’ first matchup against a ranked opponent in 2018.
  • BC is now 14-8 at the Snowbird Classic in the five years attended.
  • It marked the third straight game the Eagles did not commit an error.
  • The last pitcher to throw a complete against BC was Clemson’s Alex Eubanks on March 25, 2017 in a 1-0 Tigers win.
